Job Description:

Position Summary:
IAVI is currently seeking a highly experienced, entrepreneurial and dynamic individual to serve as Chief Financial Officer for the organization. The CFO will play a critical role in developing and implementing the overall financial strategy for IAVI. As a member of the senior leadership team, the CFO will be an advisor to the team in evaluating and managing organizational financial plans and programs. The primary responsibility of this position will be overseeing all fiscal and fiduciary responsibilities for the organization in conjunction with the Executive Office, the Board of Directors and the Audit & Finance committee of the board. Specifically the position will be responsible for all strategic and tactical matters as they relate to global finance, grants & contract, audit & compliance, planning & forecasting, knowledge management and information technology functions of the organization, while ensuring organizational efficiency and best practices in these areas are optimized across the organization. The CFO will report directly to the COO and serve as a strategic partner to the senior management team on finance and operations matters. This is a highly visible position which requires strong financial management and analytical skills as well as exceptional interpersonal skills in order to communicate effectively with diverse functional teams across the organization, including offices in Europe, Africa, India and North America.

Critical Responsibilities of the Chief Financial Officer
v Lead the organization in financial planning, including forecasting, budgeting and analysis; identify capital management requirements, cash flow needs and investment management approaches.
v Develop and enhance systems and tools to facilitate the effective management of financial resources across the organization.
v Ensure credibility of the Finance and Administration group by providing accurate analysis of budgets, financial trends, forecasts and timely information sharing with internal stakeholders and compliance with the standards and reporting requirements of external stakeholders, including auditors, donors, foundations and other relevant entities.
v Evaluate and advise management on the impact of long range planning and oversee all fiscal reporting activities for the organization while expanding upon analysis capabilities to support decision making, improve performance, and help drive business growth.
v Provide leadership in the development for the continuous evaluation of short and long-term strategic financial objectives.
v Establish and maintain strong relationships with the senior management team in order to ensure that the Finance team is working smoothly with other departments and meeting the needs of the organization.
v Provide leadership and staff support to the Audit/Finance Committee of the Board.
v Ensure that effective internal controls/safeguards are in place and compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.
v Maintain appropriate risk management systems and coordinate all audit activities across the organization, including the necessary compliance requirement by IAVI’s various donors on our sub-grantees and recipients.
v Provide recommendations to strategically enhance financial performance and business opportunities.
v Partner with head of the Knowledge Management and Information technology to set overall strategy for these areas based upon directions approved by senior management team. Ensure agreed milestones and goals are met in a timely and cost efficient manner.
v Ensure an in-depth review of internal information technology and knowledge management needs to align them with organizational strategic direction and business needs, while driving information technology usage and capabilities across the organization as an efficiency tool.
v Define transparent and efficient operating procedures for Finance, Accounting, Facilities and IT, aligned with operating goals of the organization.
v Oversee all treasury activities including banking, investment, and liquidity management. Manage currency exchange rate risk. Ensure the strategies comply with relevant statutes, regulations, and policies including the Risk Management Policy guidelines, the Sarbanes-Oxley guidelines, and other pertinent procedures.
v Keep abreast of current market and industry issues, regulations and policies, and develop and maintain relationships with other CFO within the not-for-profit sector.
Qualifications:
v At least 15 years of proven, progressive and broad based experience running all aspects of an organization’s financial operations, preferably in a complex global enterprise; previous experience in a CFO role highly preferred.
v Demonstrated high level of leadership and managerial skills with a minimum of at least 8 years prior management experience at a senior level.
v Experience with GAAP, GAAS, and non-profit financial accounting is required.
v Master’s Degree/MS in Accounting or Finance and CPA are required; MBA is highly desirable
v Knowledge and experience working with global deployed, automated financial and accounting reporting systems
v Experience and knowledge working with the major International development donors (governmental and institutional) and a good understanding of the compliance and regulatory environment required by these donors. Examples here would be USAID, DFID, European Union and Gates Foundation amongst others, would be an added advantage.
v At least 10 year demonstrated experience managing a diversified, multi currency investment portfolio, with a sustain track record of positive returns.
