NATIONAL MARKETING MANAGERS

Transnet Rail Engineering, an operating division of Transnet SOC Limited, requires the services of the following suitably qualified persons at its Koedoespoort Centre:

NATIONAL MARKETING MANAGERS
Branches: Coaches/Locomotives/Wagons
Department: Strategy and Marketing
(Ref. HR/KDS 109/7726, Ref. HR/KDS 109 x2)

Reporting directly to the Senior Manager Corporate Marketing, the successful candidates for each branch will ensure that the applicable Coach/Locomotive/Wagon Business’ viability is enhanced via competitive marketing to the clients. Incumbents will conduct and implement marketing strategies to ensure steady growth of turnover and profitability of each business, and also ensure sufficient work for the applicable workshops, and satisfy all clients’ needs.

Outputs:

  • Derive strategies to develop new business for the Coaches/Locomotives/Wagons Businesses respectively, with specific focus on profitability
  • Conduct and implement a marketing strategy that will retain existing clients and penetrate selected markets in order to ensure steady growth of turnover and profitability
  • Enhance the Coaches/Locomotives/Wagons Businesses respectively, via the marketing of applicable repairs/upgrades and modifications at competitive prices to the clients
  • Keep abreast of market developments
  • Manage and ensure a positive Transnet Rail Engineering image, with key stakeholders and in general.

Minimum requirements:

  • A degree or diploma in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering is a must
  • 5-8 years’ experience in managerial marketing.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of the applicable industry (Passenger Coach/Locomotive/Wagon) in South Africa, Africa and internationally
  • A thorough understanding of the applicable industry performance parameters (Wagon Business specifics include applicability to train designs and permanent way constraints), and operational dynamics
  • Knowledge of OEMs and stakeholders within the applicable industry
  • A thorough understanding of relevant industry components and applicable maintenance cycles
  • Interpretation of market requirements in terms of functional and technical specifications
  • Thoroughly conversant with operations of wagons within a railway network (Wagon Business only)
  • Fluency in related-industry terminology
  • The capability to draw up repair content and determine critical acceptance criteria
  • The ability to assess repair costs and do product costing
  • Knowledge of the SAP system
  • Knowledge of basic business principles
  • A working knowledge of financial principles
  • Marketing and sales exposure.
