Program Officer - PPH Prevention Bangladesh

This is a mid level program staff of the RESPOND-Bangladesh Associate Award project of Bangladesh Country Office working directly under the supervision of the Team Leader, PPH Prevention of the RESPOND-Bangladesh Associate Award. This person will be responsible for assisting the Team Leader, PPH Prevention for scaling up the initiative to strengthen effective delivery and increase/sustain use of AMTSL at facilities and Misoprostol in communities. S/he will assist the Team Leaders in efforts to identify and disseminate best practices for clinic settings and at the community level, integrate FP/LAPM and PPH Prevention and identify logistics support and ensure supply of drugs at the local level. S/he will work closely with other PPH Prevention team members and with members of other teams across the project to ensure that project activities complement and build on work done in other areas. S/he will have to be involved in organizing clinical training of skilled birth attendant, maintaining supplies, strengthening commitments, policy support and creating an enabling environment for PPH prevention through knowledge generation, dissemination and use. S/he will be involved in development of training materials, BCC materials and job aids. S/he will have to travel within the country for at least 50-60% of her/his time for implementing the program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

This incumbent will have to perform the following duties/tasks

  1. Provide TA to strengthen effective delivery and increased/sustained use of AMTSL at the facilities and Misoprostol at communities
  2. Provide technical assistance to implement scale up of Misoprostol use in the community, and ensure adoption of best practices for AMTSL clinical activities.
  3. Work to increase demand and sustained use of drugs for prevention of PPH through evidence based and innovative approaches
  4. Work to strengthen commitment, policy support and enabling environment for prevention of PPH through knowledge generation, dissemination and use
  5. Prepare reports and documents in connection with the implementation of the different program activities
  6. Work for preparing different training materials, review and update service delivery guidelines, BCC materials, job aids as a part of the program activities
  7. Assist the Team Leader, Senior Technical Advisor, Deputy Project Director, and the Project Director/Country Representative in activities as and when assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & CERTIFICATIONS

Must be a medical graduate from a recognized institute with advance degree in reproductive health or public health. Have at least 5 years of experience working in the field of reproductive health as service provider. Must have worked as a clinical trainer in the field of reproductive health, and RH/FP counseling courses. Should have experience in clinical trainee follow-up including on site coaching using facilitative technique. Must be fluent in English and Bangla speaking and writing. Willing to travel at least 60% of time within Bangladesh. Must have capabilities to maintain liaison with GO, NGO, private sectors, and communities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must have knowledge on different components of reproductive health and FP, especially on postpartum hemorrhage. Having skills in organizing and conducting clinical trainings, interaction with managers, service providers, clients, and community at different levels of service provision. Having abilities to work for transferring knowledge and skills and to change attitude of the service providers and trainee. Must have ability to provide on-site technical/clinical support to service providers, managers and supervisors. Should have strong interpersonal skill in communication with all level of staff and stakeholders. Having skills to maintain liaison with GO, NGO, private sector and other counterparts. Must have ability and willingness to do intensive travel within the Bangladesh at clinic and community level. Ability to work in a time bound program under pressure.
