Director of Conservation Programmes

Permanent & Full Time position
Starting July / August 2012

As a part of the global network World Wide Fund for nature, the WWF France office (190 000 supporters, 3000 volunteers, 100 employees, €18 million budget) has been working on protecting nature and endangered species for almost 40 years. It has been doing its utmost to involve all stakeholders, from international to local institutions, from businesses to the general public.

The mission of the Conservation Programmes department (50 employees), is to develop programs aiming at protecting natural ecosystems as well as reducing our footprint in order to promote harmonious balanced lifestyle for both man and nature. This department is divided into 8 units which also represents our scientific fields of competence: forests, fresh water, biodiversity and public awareness, international and overseas territories, Alps & Mediterranean regions oceans and coasts, climate change & public policy.

WWF France is currently looking for its new Director of Conservation Programmes, in a context of strategic reorientation for the 2012-2017 period and of transition towards project mode work.

Missions


The Director of Conservation Programmes will be in charge of the coordination of his/her team, reporting to the CEO and in direct collaboration with the Scientific Committee, with the WWF international network and with the other WWF France departments of WWF France.
Main duties :
- evaluate and supervise all the conservation programmes currently underway, regarding financial, human and material resources, and draw up management and decision making tools;
- manage each thematic unit and coordinate their activities ;
- represent WWF France’s scientific and technical expertise (seminars, conferences, interviews with journalists, negociations with partners, etc.)


Requirements:


• Scientific degree at a post graduate level,
• Significant experience during which scientific and technical credibility has been acquired in the environmental field
• Proven managerial and transitional leadership skills
• Knowledge of project mode work ideally applied to the not-for-profit sector
• Leadership, capacity to motivate and bring together people around common projects
• Fluent in English

Salary and compensation to be negotiated depending on experience and profile.
