•    Support implementation of state-of-the-art experimental designs, error control methods, and mixed-model analyses in CIMMYT’s African breeding programs, and contribute to improvement of precision and repeatability of field experiments.

•    Develop selection methods that efficiently combine information on relevant traits, including yield potential, abiotic stress tolerance, and biotic stress resistance, and measure genetic gains in CIMMYT’s African breeding programs.

•    Collaborate with breeders, agronomists, and social scientists, in the design, implementation, and analysis of experiments to identify new varieties and technologies that can help farmers improve productivity and food security in maze-based farming systems in Africa.

•    As part of CIMMYTs Biometrics and Statistics Unit, participate in the development and presentation of courses to train CIMMYT scientists and their partners in quantitative genetics and statistics applications for breeding.

•    Publish significant results in high impact scientific journals.

•    Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

•    We are seeking candidates with the following academic qualifications, skills and attitudes:

•    PhD in statistics, biometrics, agricultural statistics or related field.

•    Demonstrated understanding of agricultural research and plant breeding, and a track record of working in close collaboration with breeders.
