Department
Our market leading structured finance group is part of the
structured and asset finance team (one of four teams in the firm’s
global finance practice (structured and asset finance; banking; energy
and infrastructure; and restructuring and insolvency).
Our structured finance group is unique in combining the
securitisation, derivatives and structured products businesses in a
single team and provides the opportunity to work with and learn from
some of the very best finance lawyers in the City. The securitisation
practice has a leading reputation for whole business/structured
corporate debt transactions and conduit financings. In addition it
services a number of clients in the “flow” securitisation business,
including RMBS. Our structured products and derivatives business has a
strong reputation in equity and credit derivatives (including CLOs) as
well as the nascent longevity and structured insurance area, with a
growing emphasis on structured commodity transactions. The team acts for
a variety of banks/insurers/financial institutions, corporates, funds
and government entities. It works closely with the regulatory team.
Our junior associates are expected to work on a wide variety of
transactions in the different product lines within the group so as to
develop a broad legal knowledge on which to draw as their careers
progress. As they become more senior, associates generally specialise in
one or more product areas. However we encourage them to maintain a
broad understanding of the structured finance markets and products so
that they have the versatility to respond and adapt quickly as market
conditions change (as demonstrated by the ability of associates in the
team to work alongside the restructuring team during the turmoil of the
last three years) and the ability to recognise that legal skills and
knowledge gained in one area can be readily applied in others.
The firm’s international network provides associates with the
opportunity to work on high-profile cross border transactions with our
offices outside London.
Our associates are also provided with a comprehensive training
programme throughout their careers and mentoring scheme. And associates
have the opportunity of client secondments.
