About Sparx

Sparx is revolutionising the way students learn and teachers teach. We’re developing an extraordinary new technology for the classroom that is redefining the limits of what young people can achieve.

Imagine a classroom in which every student receives an individualised learning experience. Imagine a classroom in which a teacher has detailed insight into each child’s strengths and struggles. That classroom is one using Sparx.

We’re looking for people with a deep passion for education and a belief in the power of technology to improve it. Things move fast at Sparx so we need people who assume excellence is a given and who are ambitious, creative and effortlessly knowledgeable. People who want a challenge; people who want to make a difference.

Job description
As a content scientist at Sparx, you’ll be shaping the future of your subject and that of young people across the country. Whatever your specialism – maths, science, languages, history – you’ll ensure Sparx captures your deep knowledge of the subject matter and unlocks a whole new world of understanding for young people studying them.

You’ll be responsible for creating the building blocks for the Sparx programme that is used in the classroom; using your insights as to how students learn, analysing each topic in minute detail and breaking it up in to its component parts, to create engaging lessons and content that help students build solid understandings of the subject at hand. Surrounded by a dynamic, eclectic and inspiring team, you’ll help develop radical new ways to teach topics that give a truly one-to-one experience.

Sparx develops at a dizzying pace, so you’ll be continually using data and feedback from lessons to improve Sparx, keeping it on the cutting-edge of excellence.

About you
You’re an expert and passionate about your subject, we’d expect nothing less. Maybe you’ve been teaching it for years, maybe you’ve studied it so long you know it inside out, or maybe you just, get it. What’s more important to us is your drive to help others share this passion and knowledge.
You’ll be addicted to solving problems and eloquent in distilling your insights as to what makes a great lesson. If a child’s struggling with Sparx – that’s your fault, and the fault of the system, not theirs. We’re continually testing the team’s ideas, interacting daily with students and teachers using Sparx in a real classroom environment, so you’ll be quick and nimble at getting to the bottom of what’s not working, and – with the technical brilliance of your colleagues – capturing that insight in Sparx form.
You might not be a whizz, but you’ll know your way around technology and be able to explain tricky concepts in clear and engaging ways. Working with data isn’t an issue and you’ll be comfortable drawing on the strengths of those around you, as well as taking your own initiative, to pick up new skills and get things done.
We are recruiting for both entry-level, and more experienced candidates.
Our team
We work hard, and we play hard. You’ll be able to see Dartmoor from your office window, and get to the beach in 20 minutes.
Our generous benefits include substantial holiday leave and the chance to join our share scheme and company pension once you’ve completed your probationary period. We also have a range of on-site facilities for all employees to use free of charge. There’s a netball court and a five-a-side football pitch just outside, an on-site gym with classes throughout the day, a running track and pool table, a 2012 Olympic table tennis table and a café serving free, delicious and organic food. On top of this, we’re constantly organising events and activities to support our charities, and to socialise.
We trust our team and want them to work in the way that suits them best; whether that’s flexible hours, working from home or creating brilliance while wearing flip flops.
