Logistics of Position:
• Successful applicants will fulfill an AmeriCorps volunteer position at Teton Science Schools
• The goal of this internship is to empower AmeriCorps volunteers to use the understandings, knowledge, skills and experiences they gain through the internship to increase the scientific literacy of their communities and to develop themselves as active and engaged local and global citizens.
• AmeriCorps volunteers will have the following responsibilities:
  o Increase Scientific Literacy
      - Learn natural history content of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem
      - Learn teaching pedagogy and student management through helping facilitate Teton Science Schools Field Education programs
  o Community Engagement
       -Work with a community organization on a project that increases  scientific literacy and promotes community engagement
  o Volunteer Generation
       - Recruit volunteers to support community service projects that promote science and education
  o Serve as a full member of the Field Education Team
      - Work with and receive mentoring from professional field instructors and faculty
      - Co-facilitate field activities, evening programs, meal-time curriculum, shared campus cleaning, conference logistics and gear logistics
      - Ensure participants’ safety during all instructor-led activities of the program, both in the field and at Teton Science Schools’ facilities
      - Drive fifteen passenger vans, canoe trailers, cargo trailers and mini-buses to transport students, staff and equipment to field sites
  o Serve as a full member of the AmeriCorps Team
      - Timely completion of AmeriCorps requirements including but not limited to reflections, time logs, self-evaluation, service requirements and portfolio

  o $2,643 awarded  by AmeriCorps upon successful completion of the program
  o 6-8 weeks to process after completion of paperwork
  o Valid for 7 years and can be used for university tuition or any federally-backed student loan in your name
• Seminars/Trainings: all AmeriCorps volunteers will attend seminars and trainings provided by Teton Science Schools and will have the opportunity to attend professional development opportunities provided by the community. The internship will begin with at least one week of training followed by ongoing seminars to support your growth.
Characteristics essential for an AmeriCorps volunteer at Teton Science Schools:
• Passion for science, education and service
• Ability and willingness to take initiative, solve problems and multi-task effectively and with humor
• Ability to facilitate both large and small groups of adults, families, and kids of all ages
• Ability to work both independently and cooperatively
• Willingness to work long hours, split shifts and untraditional work weeks

Qualifications and Regulations of Teton Science Schools:
• Volunteers and employees are required to be at least 21
• Current Adult & Child CPR, First Aid, and AED certification prior to the beginning of the internship
• Valid driver’s license with no DUI in the last 3 years and no more than 2 moving violations in the last 3 years
• Ability to manage risk and make leadership decisions at all times
• You may NOT have another job during the internship. Days off will be scheduled into your position. You will need to work within these days to plan a vacation or trip.

Qualifications and Regulations of AmeriCorps:
• Must be a United States citizen, a United States national, or a legal permanent resident of the United States
• Must have obtained a high school diploma/equivalency certificate
