INTERPOL is the world’s largest international police Organization, with 190 Member Countries. Created in 1923, it facilitates cross-border police co-operation, and supports and assists all organizations, authorities, and services whose mission is to prevent or combat international crime. INTERPOL is now looking for one qualified candidate as Firearms Specialist within the Firearms Programme which is part of the Public Safety and Terrorism Sub-Directorate (Specialized Crimes and Analysis Directorate).

 Introduction of the post     
 In conformity with the general instructions given by their superiors and with existing regulations and texts (procedures, manuals, regulations, etc.), the post holders accomplish tasks pertaining to a particular profession or job category requiring the determination of working methods and an in-depth treatment of certain, particular aspects to obtain the required results.
The incumbent determines the tasks which need to be performed based on the objectives assigned to him/her, seeks the immediate superior’s approval for the methods and procedures chosen and puts forward solutions. Work is assessed as a whole and the incumbent is free to manage his/her own work schedule.
A sense of initiative is required in this type of post and the post holder is required to suggest proposals for developing existing procedures and/or methods.
The incumbent is required to have contacts with officials on every level and with external administrations and partners. He/she is required to have excellent knowledge of the files to be able to give reliable and relevant information to people with whom he/she is in contact. This will include determining priorities and clarifying matters through discussions to reach agreements at internal and/or external meetings.
Depending on matters that arise, the incumbent is required to make essentially administrative and/or technical decisions through proposals submitted to his/her superiors, who will then make the final choice.
Under minimal supervision and guidance, the post holder is responsible for the planning and delivery of the iARMS Phase II Project. The incumbent will also be responsible to lead, on behalf of the Firearms Programme, the development and delivery of training and capacity building initiatives as well as firearm crime analysis services.
Primary Duties
1. Plan and coordinate delivery of the INTERPOL Illicit Arms Records and tracing Management System (iARMS) Project, including management of resources. 
2. Lead the design and delivery of firearm-related capacity building and training initiatives. 
3. Conduct firearm-related crime analysis, including researching and collation of firearm-related crime data and information.
4. Represent INTERPOL at external meetings and conferences, as required.
Requirements
All candidates will be assessed on the under mentioned requirements.
Training/Education required
• Advanced university degree in international law, international relations, criminology or a related field.
Languages
• Professional fluency in English.
Experience required
• At least three years in the area in question, and where necessary, management experience. Ten years’ experience in the area is required if the post holder does not have the required level of education;
• Experience working in the area of law enforcement and related areas with a preference to firearm-related crime policy, operations and/or investigations.

Computer skills required
• Demonstrated experience in database development;
• Ability to work in an international organization;
• Advanced skills in the use of Microsoft Office products.
Specific skills required
• Project management experience;
• Experience in planning and allocating human and other resources;
• Strong communication skills, both in written and oral form (public speaking and delivery of presentations).

In addition to the requirements, the following Assets and Special Aptitudes would be beneficial.
• Working knowledge of another language of the Organization;
• Experience supervising staff (preferred).
Working Conditions
• Remuneration for appointment on contract: The starting salary for grade 5 is EUR 3479 per month for a step 1.

• This post requires occasional travel on missions, sometimes of a long duration and at short notice.
• The incumbent will also be required to work occasional overtime based upon workload.
* The Organization plans to establish a Global Complex in Singapore at the end of 2013.   Although no decisions have been made at this time as to which posts will be transferred to Singapore, acceptance of the post implies acceptance of a transfer to Singapore.
