Human Rights Watch is seeking a Grant Specialist to help oversee a portfolio of budgets and related grants. The position reports to the Associate Director of Budgeting and Award Management.  
Responsibilities:
1. Oversee a portfolio of projects and their associated grants by managing the funds and providing guidance, instruction and training to staff affected by the projects;
2. Prepare and manage project budgets and related expense reports for the portfolio, including internal and external reports, and review all expenditures and contracts for accuracy and availability of funds;
3. Respond to donor inquiries; perform reallocations and other grant management functions related to the portfolio;
4. Liaise with senior program and development staff to ensure grants are being used appropriately and within the designated time frame;
5. Monitor projects’ progress against milestones and deadlines;
6. Monitor expense report results and provide additional reports and detail as needed or requested; and
7. Carry out any other duties as required. 
Qualifications:
Education:  A bachelor’s degree is required.  A degree in Finance, Business Administration or a related field is highly desirable.
Experience:  Minimum two years’ previous experience working with grant budgets and/or reporting activities is required; prior experience working in nonprofit/NGO operations is highly desirable.
Related Skills and Knowledge: 
1. Strong computer knowledge, including advanced ability with Microsoft Excel, is required.  Experience with Microsoft Dynamics is highly desirable.
2. Previous experience in and/or demonstrated knowledge of nonprofit finance and fund accounting.
3. Excellent time-management skills and ability to prioritize tasks while maintaining stellar attention to detail is required.
4. Excellent communication skills, self-motivated, creative problem-solver, highly organized, and demonstrates the ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
5. Strong oral and written communications skills in English are required; proficiency in French is advantageous.
6. Ability to work well under pressure while juggling multiple tasks simultaneously.
Salary and Benefits:  Salary is commensurate with experience and education.  Human Rights Watch offers comprehensive employer-paid benefits, including medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, an outstanding retirement savings plan and twelve (12) days’ vacation per year.
Contract Duration: Initial one year fixed term contract.  Renewable depending on the availability of continued funding.
