GENERAL FUNCTION:
Based in Washington, DC; the Director of Program Development will provide the strategic vision and technical leadership for Internews’ program development and support improving the quality of monitoring and evaluation and knowledge management for programs. This individual will manage a team of program development professionals and will lead the department’s efforts to:
• Create competitive development proposals and expanding new business opportunities with major institutional funders.
• Oversee monitoring & evaluation and sharing of best practices across programs.
• Seek opportunities to present lessons learned and knowledge gathered at panels, conferences and other venues either through staff or academic partnerships.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; other duties may be assigned:
• Cultivate new business development opportunities and institutional partnerships.
• Cultivate institutional partnerships in the development field (with entities such as universities, law firms, other NGOs). Raise awareness of these partnerships within the organization.
• Support RFA/RFP Processes
• Ensure increased opportunities for organizational learning and that these opportunities reach across the organization.
• Oversee the development of M&E templates and tools that can be replicated across portfolios and in support of the broader mission. Ensure support and methodologies are provided to increase the design, implementation and reporting of M&E within the organization
• Responsible for tracking and reporting trends in US foreign assistance.
• Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
The Director of Program Development supervises all Program development staff and consultants. The Director of Program Development carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• At least 5 years experience of management in international non-profit organization, at least 10 years non-profit experience;
• Experience with grant management and non-profit funder relations is required. Experience working with the U.S. Agency for International Development and other USG agencies a major plus;
• Significant experience in business development – researching and analyzing funding opportunities, leading successful proposal teams. Proposal development experience required;
• Experience in monitoring and evaluation of development programs;
• Ability to plan, set goals, monitor progress and evaluate results;
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team in a flexible, dynamic environment;
• Media background preferred but not required;
• Native English required, other languages an asset;
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills including diplomacy, tact, and the ability to negotiate;
• Excellent communication skills: speaking, writing, and listening;
• Ability to set priorities and manage time effectively;
• Analytical and problem-solving ability;
• Ability to work both independently and as an effective team member;
• Proven ability to prioritize and handle multiple on-going assignments;
• Ability and willingness to travel, mainly to Internews operations overseas and to headquarters in Arcata, California.
