Maine Maritime Academy (MMA) is an 850 student, public, fully accredited college located in the small coastal village of Castine, Maine. The college is one of six state supported maritime colleges in the United States. MMA is a college of engineering, transportation, management, ocean sciences and international business. MMA is a NCAA Division III institution that competes in the North Atlantic Conference, and New England Football Conference member. MMA currently seeks to fill the following positions:
FULL-TIME POSITIONS

VICE PRESIDENT FOR STUDENT AFFAIRS AND ENROLLMENT MANAGEMENT
Maine Maritime Academy seeks an accomplished and strategic professional to provide leadership and management as the Academy’s Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. Reporting to the President, this Exempt position works collaboratively at the strategic level with the senior administration while being responsible for all student recruitment and retention activities; and all aspects of student co-curricular and extra-curricular activities including student character development. Direct reports include the Dean of Student Services, the Commandant of Midshipmen, and the Director of Athletics.
 The successful candidate must have a minimum of a Master’s Degree and proven record of experience and progressive leadership responsibilities, with a familiarity of recruitment and retention strategies, student judicial processes, and current student cultures. She/he will have a demonstrated ability to make sound decisions, and possess a solutions approach to problem solving. Salary Range $95K to $115K based on experience.

CONTRACT - GRANTS SPECIALIST

The successful applicant will work on an as needed basis to review and evaluate the pre-award and post-award status of federal contracts and/or grants proposals, including budgeting.  The selected candidate should be cognizant of federal guidelines, be able to review federal contracts and/or grants proposals for adherence to specified rules/regulations, and advise the Research Director of the MMA Center for Applied Research and Education of proposals ready for submission.    The candidate will need to interact with principal investigators in reviewing, editing, and updating contracts/grants in the pre-award and/or post-award phase of the grant life-cycle.
Minimum Requirements:
-           Proven experience with federal contracts and grant review/evaluation processes.
-           15-20 years of experience working with federal contracts and grants review and evaluation in a
            State university system
-           Working knowledge of federal guidelines and reporting structures
-           Familiarity with grants management software for tracking university grants
ASSISTANT PROFESSOR - MATHEMATICS/COMPUTER SCIENCE
Full-time permanent position beginning September, 2013.  A Ph.D. in the discipline preferred, Master’s degree from an accredited institution and evidence of effective college teaching experience required.  Candidates will be expected to teach the calculus sequence, statistics, computer programming and applications.  Some assistance in Physics’ labs may be required.  Successful candidates will show a commitment to undergraduate teaching and scholarship.
 
SMALL CRAFT MASTER

SMALL CRAFT MASTER WITH SAIL ENDORSEMENT
The Small Craft Master applicant must possess a valid 100 Ton USCG license.  Applicants for the Small Craft Master with Sail Endorsement must possess a valid 100 Ton USCG license with sail endorsement.  Command experience of larger, small craft.  The successful applicant will participate in MMA’s Random Drug Testing program and will be subject to a pre-employment drug screen.  One full-time position and one full-time (1 year appointment starting June 1, 2013) position pay range 21 starting at: $46,924.41 or 22 starting at: $49,040.76.

INFORMATION ANALYST
The information analyst will use assorted analysis tools to query data repositories and generate reports, identify trends and patterns in operational data, monitor work flow and procedures as it pertains to relevant systems; recommend and implement system changes to achieve budgetary savings and system efficiencies.  Full-time position, pay range 17 starting at: $39,419.90. 
BUILDING AND GROUNDS MAINTENANCE WORKER - CUSTODIAL
Candidate will perform all aspects of building and custodial maintenance including but not limited to sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, waxing and all other aspects of building sanitation.  Heavy lifting required.   Pay Range 7, $12.48 per hour.

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF LOGISTICS

DIRECTOR OF HUMAN RESOURCES (RE-ADVERTISED)
Maine Maritime Academy seeks an accomplished and strategic HR professional to provide leadership and management as the Academy’s Director of Human Resources, a senior exempt level position reporting to the Vice President of Operations. This position is responsible for developing and sustaining progressive and responsive human resources policies, programs, and services for the faculty and staff, to include Employee and Labor Relations, Employment Services, Benefits Administration, Compensation and Classification, Payroll Services, Training and Professional Development, Equal Opportunity Employment and Regulatory compliance, and a Campus Employee Alert Team.
The successful candidate must have:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Public Administration, Human Resources Management, or related field.
  • At least 7 years of increasingly responsible human resources experience, with at least five years of experience in a supervisory capacity.
  • Demonstrated experience in collective bargaining.
  • Strong employee and labor relations skills.
  • Proven leadership and ability to manage, inspire and lead an HR team in customer service oriented human resources infrastructure.
  • Ability to identify and proactively respond to sensitive and difficult organizational and personnel issues.

INSTRUCTOR/ASSISTANT PROFESSORFull-time temporary position starting Fall, 2012. Includes classes in Marine Systems Engineering (EAC of ABET accredited) and Marine Engineering Technology (TAC of ABET accredited) and other engineering programs. The position will directly support the teaching of undergraduate engineering design, engineering science and engineering technology courses. The minimum credentials for this position are an earned BS in an Engineering field. Master’s Degree preferred. This is a one-year sabbatical replacement position.
TEACHING ASSISTANT/TECHNICAL SUPPORTThe Department of Engineering is seeking applicants who will support faculty in teaching lab courses and will be responsible for maintenance and operation of Engineering Department laboratory equipment. Lab equipment includes fluid systems, turbines, heat exchangers, materials testing equipment, instrumentation, and data acquisitions systems. Applicants should have a Bachelor’s or a Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Engineering Operations and/or appropriate and relevant professional experience and qualifications. Prior college-level teaching experience, a marine or stationary engineer’s license, and /or work experience in the marine or power industry preferred. Level will be based on a review of education and qualifications. Full-time, 9 ½ month staff position beginning in the Fall, 2012 semester. Pay range: Level I $30,620.29, Level II $34,883.93, Level III $39,819.63.
ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF ENGINEERINGThe Engineering Department at Maine Maritime Academy is currently seeking to fill a full time faculty position for the fall, 2012 semester. Minimum qualifications are a graduate level Engineering Degree. Qualified individuals will be teaching a variety of engineering subjects including Thermodynamics, Fluids, Thermo-fluids, Statics and Dynamics to technology and operational level undergraduate students. Preference will be given to any qualified candidates holding a US Coast Guard unlimited engineering license.
PART-TIME/TEMPORARY
 FIRE FIGHTING INSTRUCTOR
Firefighting instruction required.  Temporary part-time position beginning March 16 for 6 consecutive weekends.  Pay rate:  $25.00 per hour.

CHIEF MATE - SCHOONER BOWDOIN
Qualified applicants must have a minimum of a 100 Ton Near Coastal Mate's License with Auxiliary Sail endorsement.  Significant traditional vessel sailing experience as master, mate, or watch officer and related maintenance experience required.  A valid US passport and passing a pre-employment drug test are required for this stipend six-month position with an anticipated start date of May 1, 2013. Duties will include outfitting the vessel, engaging in day sails and sail training voyages between Southern New England and the Canadian Maritimes. In addition, the successful candidate must be able to enter Canada and have no prior convictions that deem them “inadmissible” under Canadian law.
STEWARD/DECKHAND - SCHOONER BOWDOIN
Qualified applicants must have experience cooking for large numbers and interest in part-time deck work and maintenance.  The steward’s primary job will be planning meals, cooking, and maintaining the ship’s galley stores.  Experience cooking aboard offshore vessels is preferred.   A valid US passport and passing a pre-employment drug test are required for this stipend four-month position with an anticipated start date of May 1, 2013. Duties will include fitting out the vessel during May and responsible for feeding a crew of 16 while shore side.  . The steward/deckhand is expected to serve as a MMA representative while enrolled students reside in the dorm (May only) and engaging in day sails and sail training voyages between Southern New England and the Canadian Maritimes. In addition, the successful candidate must be able to enter Canada and have no prior convictions that deem them “inadmissible” under Canadian law.

ADJUNCT INSTRUCTOR – P.E. SWIMMING

RESEARCH PROJECT LEADER
MMA seeks a part-time Research Project Leader to oversee both technical and financial aspects of tidal energy projects part of the hydrokinetic energy project, including the coordination of the work of various participants involved (engineers, technicians, suppliers, testing companies and subcontractors). An engineering background is required as the position may require substantial hand-on engineering effort as part of the job. The successful candidate will provide leadership to ensure that development methods, timelines and costs are observed during each phase of the project. This is a part-time project management position for Maine Maritime Academy’s Hydrokinetic (MHK) Energy project. This position is an open appointment and is contingent upon external (soft money) funding.
Some of the specific MHK project areas where the successful candidate will work is the development of Canadian partnerships, the improvement of existing infrastructure, navigating policy and regulatory considerations, and the development and marketing of a Maine Hydrokinetic Center of Excellence that will support taking projects beyond the conceptual stage.
Specific candidate skills
•           Have a BS in engineering, MS preferred; with a specialization in tidal energy projects.
•           Have technical skills in the area of expertise in question
•           Be able to solve managerial, financial and business problems in relation to project
            management
•           Prior engineering project management/research project experience highly desirable
ADJUNCT INSTRUCTOR – ENGINEERING (SPRING, 2013)
The successful candidate will teach introductory practical electricity course to operational and technology students.  Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required and a U.S.C.G. license is preferred.

RESEARCH ENGINEERThe successful candidate(s) will perform research projects including offshore floating wind turbines, tidal turbines, wave energy devices and other energy related projects.  A B.S. in engineering is required and a MS in engineering is desired.  Experience in energy systems and research is desired.  This is an open appointment (soft-money) and is contingent upon successful funding.
ADJUNCT INSTRUCTORS – ENGINEERINGAdjunct instructors are needed for the Fall, 2012 academic term. The successful candidates will possess a strong maritime or power industry background with operational experience. A Bachelor of Science Degree is required for all positions: Fluid Power, Fluid Power Lab, and Thermal/Fluids Lab.
COACHING INTERNSKnowledge, playing/coaching experience at the college level in volleyball/soccer and/or softball. Stipend position including room and board.

MATH AND PHYSICS TUTORSMaine Maritime Academy seeks one or more individuals to provide private tutoring in math and/or physics at the college level to students with learning disabilities. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree or higher and relevant teaching experience. Tutors will be expected to schedule tutoring appointments 7-9 PM, Mondays through Thursdays or at other mutually agreed upon times with students. Tutors will be limited to less than 20 hours per week and paid on an hourly basis at $25/hour.
