ACCOUNTANT

ACCOUNTANT POSITION
Department: Finance – Based in Washington, DC
Reports To: Senior Accountant– Based in Washington, DC
Job Classification: Exempt, Full-time /Ongoing
U.S. work authorization required
GENERAL FUNCTION
Provide overall support to the department of Finance in the areas of general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts, and processing, consolidation and analysis of financial data from the field offices.

SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES:
• Receive the monthly/quarterly financial reports and files containing accounting transactions from field offices and partners, and follow-up on all information not submitted on time.
• Review monthly/quarterly financial reports and accounting transactions from field offices and partners for accuracy and follow-up by email, telephone, or faxes to resolve discrepancies.
• Prepare and enter journal entries as required.
• Coordinate and record cash receipts of grants, contributions, and miscellaneous income.
• Analyze, research and develop responses to questions received related to assigned sub grants and sub contracts.
• Provide clear oral and written communication to support financial and non-financial staff on various accounting issues.
• Proactively seek out resolutions to potential audit findings.
• Perform monthly bank reconciliations.
• Process accounts payable and cash disbursements.
• Process accounts receivable and cash receipts.
• Prepare and process payroll and deductions schedules.
• Prepare periodic reconciliations of balance sheet accounts.
• Develop procedures and updates to support activity related to job functions.
• Maintain filing system and job related schedules.
• Provide support, as needed for the audit.
• Prepare grant analysis and reconciliations.
• Prepare donor reports for grants and contracts.
• Provide support to unit and departmental team-based projects as they arise.
• Prepare invoices to USAID and other donors for reimbursement of grants and contracts expenditures.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• General office setting.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred.
• 4 years of accounting experience.
• Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
• Conversant with grants and contracts management, particularly Federal grants.
• Conversant with A110, A122, A133 and FAR.
• Ability to develop solid working relationships with internal and external customers.
• Ability to work independently and on team projects.
• Ability to analyze and prepare general ledger account reconciliations
• Ability to demonstrate a high level of accuracy in assigned tasks.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to answer questions effectively and in a pleasant manner.
• Ability to maintain calm when adversity is encountered.
• Proficient computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft applications and relevant accounting software packages and spreadsheet applications. Knowledge of Quickbooks is desired.
• Ability to work in an automated environment.
• Ability to organize, handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
