ADVOCACY & COMMUNICATIONS  INTERNSHIP
The Millennium Water Alliance seeks an Advocacy/Communications intern for January – April/May 2014 (exact start and end dates are flexible). The intern will assist the Advocacy Director with relationships with other NGOs on US policy; writing and posting for our website, assisting with news releases, social media, and print publications; attending meetings on Capitol Hill and with other international development organizations; and may have the opportunity to create new projects to communicate with diverse audiences about the Alliance’s work in Africa and Latin America.
This position is in the Washington DC office.  Individuals not residing in Washington in 2014 should not apply. Strong preference for applicants with experience with websites, and good English proofreading and editing skills.
QUALIFICATIONS  - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE APPLYING!
Excellent English writing and proofreading skills are absolutely required; experience with website posting and managing social media, and excellent skills with Microsoft Office and Adobe publications and  are essential; experience with graphic design is helpful, but not required. Some knowledge of one or more of these areas – international development, international relations, or US politics/issue advocacy – is desirable. This position relies on communications skills more than anything else – it is not only aimed at those who aspire to work in the WASH sector or other areas of international development, but is also very suitable for those with academic/professional backgrounds in communications, journalism, or website development.
COMPENSATION:
A small stipend may be possible; reimbursement for daily commuting expenses may also be provided. This is NOT a full-time position; the stipend will not be enough to cover relocation costs, so only candidates who plan to reside in the Washington DC area should apply. Our office is located in the center of downtown Washington, accessible by Metro, three blocks from the White House.
