This role supports the TMT BDM, one of the of the firm’s eight sector groups. Working with the TMT BDM, the role-holder will provide high quality, proactive business development support to the partners and associates to assist them to successfully grow their business and relationships with clients in the sector. The role will require extensive use of the firm’s information and marketing systems.
- Business development planning and targeting: supporting client targeting initiatives, including co-ordinating with other practice groups, sector groups or offices targeting the same clients and monitoring progress. Preparing materials and assisting with organisation of client reviews. Assisting with developing group business plans and associated action plans. Supporting SGL visits. Attendance at / organisation of key sector group meetings and subsequent follow up.
- Research, analysis and reporting: undertaking internal/external research and analysis (either directly or via specialist internal/external sources) on clients, targets, markets, competitors, rankings etc. and helping identify key existing clients and targets for new business. Providing SGLs with relevant information for sector management. Supporting client teams with understanding of client relationships both internally and externally.
- Pitches/proposals/brochures: researching, developing and providing input and experience for pitches both through the KBD team and directly to lawyers around the network. Maintaining an up-to-date suite of brochures and other marketing materials. Assisting in the development of new marketing materials through co-ordinating drafting, proofing and production of materials. Liaising with lawyers to ensure profiles for CVs are updated on a regular basis.
- Awards/directory entries: Drafting and coordinating entries for relevant industry directories, publications and awards.
- Experience collection: maintaining a central experience resource identifying TMT matters carried out by PGs and regions, verifying descriptions and supporting information with relevant partners/associates, and recording onto the relevant experience databases. Preparation and maintenance of the most frequently used experience lists.
- Website/intranet: updating and amending the contents of the TMT section of the firm’s website, liaising with the website team as appropriate. Being actively involved in the development of the TMT sector group's intranet/wiki site and ensuring business development information on the site is up-to-date.
- Client mailshots: co-ordinating mailings for client newsletters and briefings. Developing and maintaining mailing lists and updating as necessary, using the firm’s client relationship database.
- Client/sector seminars/events: organising client/sector seminars/conferences, including sourcing venues, preparing invite lists, mailing invitations, co-ordinating conference materials and ensuring pro-active follow up. Continual liaison with relevant partners.
- Current awareness: monitoring news and rumours on key clients and developments in the sector.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) with confidence and ability to deal with partners, senior lawyers and staff at all levels.
- Proven organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
- Ability to take initiatives and challenge status quo.
- Ability to handle several projects at one time and to prioritise workload.
- Team player – reliable, flexible, helpful and willing to work beyond contracted hours from time to time.
Essential
- Degree educated (or equivalent)
- Excellent systems and database skills including experience of windows-based packages such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Desirable
- Experience of working in a legal or professional services firm.
- Experience of working in an international business.
- Relevant business/marketing qualification.
- Experience of the TMT sector.
