Financial Project Controller


Simavi is an ambitious, growing development organization of more than 50 people. Out head office is in Haarlem, Netherlands, and we have local representations in Tanzania, Indonesia and Bangladesh. In partnership with local civil society organisations, we improve the health of marginalised communities in the poorest regions in developing countries in Africa and Asia. Together with local communities, the private sector, knowledge institutes and governments we address Sexual and Reproductive Rights as well as the right for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene- because we believe that those two themes are the basic determinants for a good health. We campaign to engage the general public and involve them in what we do. We are the lead agent of the WASH Alliance international (WAI), a member of the Watershed Alliance, a member of the GUSO (Get Up Speak Out) Alliance, and take part in many more initiatives and alliances.

Financial Project Controller
24-32 hours per week

The Job
The main responsibility of the Financial Project Controller is to contribute to appropriate financial planning and monitoring of the utilization of funds made available by Simavi to partners in different countries in the south and for quality financial reporting to back-donors of Simavi's programmes. The Financial Project Controller reports to the Director Finance & Operations , in close collaboration with the Senior Financial Controller and Programme Officers at the Simavi head office in Haarlem, the Netherlands.
Main tasks and responsibilities
  • Prepare financial reports to back donors and assure that all supporting documents for donor reporting are made available according to donor requirements.
  • Preparation of plans and budgets, performance reports and contractual payments to partners and back donors.
  • Assist Programme Officers to monitor and evaluate financial plans, budgets and reports as well as audits of partner programmes and projects (including revenues, spending, cost structures and cash flow forecasts).
  • Prepare financial aspects of funding applications according to donor requirements and procedures.
  • Assess of and advise on the financial capacity of partner organizations and accountability systems towards different constituencies.
  • Supports the field office(s) by the development of internal, financial processes and procedures and provides related ad hoc support.
Profile
  • Academic level in finance, administration or economic sciences.
  • Substantial knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting an cost control principles.
  • Experience in preparing budgets of funding application for different donors.
  • Experience in finance with a demonstrated track record on financial monitoring of projects and programmes.
  • Experience of financial management of not for profit initiatives in developing countries is desirable.
  • Competence and demonstrated experience in the use of computerized systems, including financial software applications is essential.
  • Interpersonal skills, attention to detail, application of strong financial rigor, discretion and integrity are key characteristics.
  • Excellent communication skills in English and at least good understanding of Dutch language.
  • Dutch citizen or in possession of legal entitlement to live and work in the Netherlands.
Simavi offers
An interesting position in a dynamic and international working environment, with substantial personal freedom in the context of an ambitious and professional team.
A contract for 24-32 hours (exact hours in consultation with the selected candidate) and gross monthly salary between EU 2,755 and EU 3,887 on a fulltime basis of 36 hours.
