We are looking for self-motivated individuals with high energy levels who are tenacious in their output and delivery.  Our apprenticeships are an ideal place to start a career and be part of a growing and exciting organisation.

To be a great apprentice you’ll need to be highly practical, a great problem solver and interested in how things move and work. In addition you will be an enthusiastic learner willing to grow and develop throughout a 4 year Apprenticeship and have a desire to take on more responsibility as your career develops. Not only will you successfully manage to gain valuable work experience, but you’ll also learn both practical skills and theory at a local college and achieve industry standard qualifications and have the opportunity to become ‘Time Served’ and continue to a long and prosperous career with a global innovative and fast moving organisation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

We’re looking for apprentices who not only have the capability to succeed in our organisation today but also have the potential to be our leaders of tomorrow. We are looking for someone who is committed to the role and Diageo from day one. 

Apprentices are members of a Coopering team responsible for the various processes associated with Cask Manufacturing and Maintenance including developing the traditional hand skills required for cask construction and learning the machine processes for mechanical Coopering this will include the safe movement of empty casks within an established set of process procedures. We are looking for someone who can be involved in both team and lone person working that requires effective decision making and problem solving skills, as well as an ability to use initiative to adapt pre-set work plans. This type of role will entail physical manual handling activities. A large proportion of the work will involve bending, twisting, turning, stooping, some over reaching and standing for long periods of time. 
 
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • Minimum of 3 Standard Grades at Level 3 or above (to include Maths and English).
  • Must qualify for Modern Apprentice programme criteria (as detailed on Skills Development Scotland)
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Positive and flexible attitude
  • Ability to demonstrate strong work ethos both individually and as part of a team
  • General computer system knowledge and experience preferred – ability to functionally use Microsoft packages such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint are beneficial
  • Full UK driving license is preferable but not essential
PLEASE NOTE: You must be a minimum of 18 years old to work in the Cooperage.
