ASSOCIATION DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST

Global Partnership for Afghanistan (GPFA) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization registered locally for work in Afghanistan. Since 2004, it has helped rural Afghan men and women launch farm-based businesses that provide sustainable incomes, alleviate poverty, and improve the environment. Farmer-owned enterprises such as fruit and nut orchards, tree nurseries, vineyards, and timber woodlots are the cornerstones of our programs. GPFA also builds and strengthens the support systems that sustain the agricultural sector. GPFA has administrative offices in New York City and Kabul with field offices in 8 Afghan provinces. The organization consists of a small administrative staff in New York (NY) and more than 150 employees in Afghanistan. POSITION SUMMARY:
The Association Development Specialist is responsible for organizing and supporting the establishment of a High Value Crops Producers Organization as part of a multi-year economic development project that will support farmer entrepreneurs and investors to construct and manage greenhouses for production and export of high value horticultural products, encourage the formation of a commercial greenhouse growers association, and create linkages with national, regional and international markets. The project supports development of related extension services, university curricula and teacher training, and research capabilities. The Association Development Specialist, an Afghan national to be selected in-country, will be part of a team of specialists, led by a Project Manager, and working with the support of GPFA management and program support services. The Association Development Specialist must have considerable experience and expertise in farmer organization, registration, capacity building and related issues in Afghanistan.

The position is based in Nangarhar with required travel to the district where the project is located, to GPFA Headquarters in Kabul and to other locations as required for the conduct of business.

QUALIFICATIONS: *Minimum of 6 years experience in farmer organization and association development *Required experience with similar projects internationally, preferably in Central Asia, and in Afghanistan *Private sector orientation *Experience in providing training and technical support for local organizations *Proven ability to work in multi-cultural environments *Ability to work in, read documents, and write reports in English * Dari and Pashto writing, reading and speaking skills required * Willingness to travel to provinces included in the project portfolio
