ABOUT ESN

ESN is the independent network for social services in Europe. Our mission is to help change the lives of the most vulnerable in our societies through the delivery of quality social services. With Members in local public social services across Europe, we bring together the people who are key to the design and delivery of vital care and support services, to learn from each other, and contribute their experience and expertise to building effective social policy at the European and the national level.

ESN is a Europe-wide network in 28 countries with a secretariat comprising an enthusiastic international team based in Brighton (UK).

ABOUT THE ROLE

The role requires a keen eye for branding and design, the ability to develop and implement communications and membership strategies and competence in delivering creative projects (website, e-news, publications and films) and supporting workshops, seminars and conferences . You will report to the Chief Executive and work closely with the policy team and other colleagues. The duties of this post are to:

Creative Projects

  • Manage of the content and design of the ESN website www.esn-eu.org and enewsletter www.esn-eu.org/newsletter-archive
  • Contribute to the conception, copy-editing and design of ESN products (reports, presentations, films, branded stationery, promotional material).
  • Develop and deliver creative projects to deadlines by working with ESN colleagues and liaising with external suppliers.
  • Develop the audiovisual library.

Membership Development and Member Services

  • Act as the point of contact for 80 Member Organisations across Europe
  • Promote membership of ESN to reach the target of 100 Members by 2013.
  • Manage and contribute to the development of ESN’s contact database.

Strategy and Management

  • Manage ESN’s communications strategy (branding, design, creative projects)
  • Identify new communications opportunities in the area of press and new media
  • Line-manage the (part-time) web & ICT assistant
  • Manage ESN’s membership development strategy

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION

Essential:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Experience in communications, advocacy, campaigns or member services Knowledge of web-editing and advanced IT
  • Time-management and the drive to deliver to deadlines
  • The initiative and creativity to develop projects and products
  • Fluency in at least one other European language
  • Degree-level education in relevant field
  • Political and cultural sensitivity

Desirable:

  • Some knowledge and/or experience of the EU
  • Understanding of the role of social welfare services
  • Competence in data management systems
  • Photography and/or other audiovisual skills

WHAT WE OFFER

The post is based at ESN secretariat in Brighton where you will join a small international team and have opportunities to develop this important area of activity in a fast growing network across Europe. There will also be occasional opportunities for European travel. You will be in constant contact with ESN members and contacts besides working with suppliers on creative projects.

Salary: £24-28 000 per annum dependent on skills and experience.

Holiday: annual leave entitlement is 21 days plus UK statutory holidays.

Training and development: ESN is committed to staff training and professional development; opportunities can be discussed with the CEO and Office Manager.

Normal working hours: 09.00-17.00 Monday to Friday with some exceptions for travel.
