REQUIRED COMPETENCIES Degree in agricultural/forestry science, environmental science/engineer, geology or related fields Minum of 5 years of experience in natural resources conservation and management, soil erosion mitigation, and agro-forestry in developing countries Demonstrated capacity to build local partners and staff capacities in the above mentioned sectors (ToTs, participatory approach, FFS) as well as excellent team-building and interpersonal skills Experience in concept note preparation and proposal writing, with a good knowledge of institutional donor requirements (WFP, FAO, ECHO, EU) History of working effectively and respectfully with host country governments, INGO and NGO partners Strong leadership, supervisory and social skills Fluency in written and spoken French and English

DESIRABLE COMPETENCIES Proven experience in writing technical papers, strategies and handbooks on natural resources management, soil erosion reduction, agroforestry Knowledge of the tropical and subtropical natural environment and related Knowledge of NGO procedures, approaches, and operations Experience in agricultural vulgarisation Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel

WORK CONTEXT Cesvi actions in Haiti started on September 2008 with an emergency plan in consequence of the passage of different tropical storms in the North of the country. Following these intervention, other projects on food security and natural resources management (funded by the European Commission) have been implemented in the North Department. After the earthquake of January 2010, Cesvi reinforced its mission in Haiti by implementing other projects in the emergency sector: water and sanitation, education, protection and food security in the areas of Port au Prince, Petit Goave, Grand Goave and Les Cayes. Cesvi is present in the area of Petit-Goâve and Grand- Goâve municipalities contributing with a WASH emergency response (before and after the cholera outbreak) and education projects funded by AGIRE, Swiss Cooperation, ECHO and UNICEF. Moreover, Cesvi is contributing to the improvement of nutritional and psycho-social conditions of children and families living in the quarters of Waf Jeremie and La Saline - Port au Prince. In Les Cayes Cesvi intervention is focused on food security and natural resources management: on January 2001, a new project funded by ECHO started in the food security sector with a multisectorial approach. JOB DESCRIPTION The main duty station will be the Country Office in Les Cayes (in the South of Haiti). The collaboration will start in October.

The main objective of the collaboration is to support and improve the local skills in the conservation and exploitation of natural resources.

Main tasks: -S/he will work for the improve (through trainings) local staff's capacities on environmental protection; -S/he will elaborate a training on erosion control and mitigation, and environmental protection (24-48 hours on 4 weekends or 8 Saturdays); -S/he will draft an handbook on erosion control methods and soil conservation; -S/he will implement an awareness campaign on natural resources conservation for primary schools' students, through micro gardens development ( preferably using the permaculture approach); -S/he will create agro-forestry models for the economic rehabilitation of the hill areas in the framework of agricultural development plan of the Districts (analysis of existing cultivation models, proposal of new agro-forestry models in the area, description of risks and impacts of the use of new models, selection of choice-criteria for the selection of areas of implementation); -S/he will plan a project proposal for the development of hills areas; -S/he will supervise the implementation of engineering works for erosion mitigation and soil protection in a dimostrative pilot area (the feasibility of this activity will be evaluated according to the project timing9; -The expert will work independently in strong coordination with Project Manager and will respond to the Chief of Mission and to the HQ desk officer.
