Position Summary
IREX seeks a Deputy Chief of Party to assist in managing a potential new program to support Uganda’s Ministry of Education and Sports to provide high-quality literacy and HIV/AIDS education.. The Deputy Chief of Party will assist the Chief of Party (COP) in meeting program objectives and will provide technical expertise in literacy development. The position is contingent on funding.
ELIGIBILITY: Citizens of Uganda preferred
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist the COP in overseeing all components of the program
- Provide expertise in the Uganda education sector
- Assist the COP in monitoring, evaluation and reporting functions
- Leadership and management of program staff
- Management of Ugandan partner organizations and international and Ugandan consultants
Qualifications
- Master’s or higher degree in basic education/literacy development or other relevant field preferred
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of basic education/literacy sector issues in Uganda, both at national and local levels
- HIV/AIDS services delivery, and organizational development experience helpful
- Experience in managing and implementing multi-component, donor-funded programs, including budget management
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage and mentor staff
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated pro-active approach to problem solving
- Fluency in English required
