Position Summary

IREX seeks a Deputy Chief of Party to assist in managing a basic education development program in Mozambique. The Deputy Chief of Party will assist the Chief of Party (COP) in meeting program objectives and will provide technical expertise in basic education development. The position, which will be based in Maputo, is contingent on funding.

ELIGIBILITY: Citizens of Mozambique preferred

Duties & Responsibilities

Assist the COP in overseeing all components of the program

Provide expertise in the Mozambique basic education sector and other stakeholders

Assist the COP in monitoring, evaluation and reporting functions

Leadership and management of program staff

Management of Mozambique partner organizations and international and Mozambique consultants

Qualifications

Master’s or higher degree in basic education development or other relevant field preferred

Familiarity with Ministry of Education and Sports (MOES) structures and related organizations

Thorough knowledge and understanding of basic education sector issues in Mozambique, both at national and local levels

Experience in managing and implementing multi-component, donor-funded programs, including budget management

Demonstrated ability to effectively manage and mentor staff

Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated pro-active approach to problem solving

Fluency in English and Portuguese required
