Economic Policy

Director: Labour
All-inclusive remuneration package: R685 200 per annum

Purpose: To conduct research on labour market trends and factors impacting labour supply and demand, to inform sound policy advice on issues relating to unemployment and job creation and as inputs into the economic framework for the MTBPS and the Budget.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Economics
  • At least 3 years’ relevant work experience
  • Sound understanding of macroeconomics and a thorough understanding of South African economic trends and sources of data and information
  • Proven track record in research and analysis of economic trends and principles
  • Superior research, analysis and report writing skills, with the ability to interpret economic policy
  • Sound analytical reasoning and problem-solving abilities
  • Proven ability to work within a team • Experience in performance management would be advantageous.


Key outputs:

  • Conceptualise and conduct research on labour markets, inequality and poverty, with particular emphasis on economic trends and policy analysis
  • Develop and maintain a database of information relevant to the research subject area, eg the sectoral and demographic breakdown of employment and unemployment, wage developments and labour costs
  • Provide qualitative comment on and assessment of research on relevant SA economic issues conducted outside of the Treasury
  • Co-ordinate and participate in intragovernment discussions on labour market issues
  • Contribute to and co-ordinate the development of presentations by providing the requisite data, graphs and research
  • Provide input on the current and future economic outlook and co-ordinate inputs for briefing notes, speeches, research and presentations to the DG and Minister.
