The School of Law is seeking to appoint a Manager to coordinate the operation of the USP Community Legal Centre in Port Vila, Vanuatu. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and coordinating the Legal Centre practice; liaising with the Public Solicitor’s office, government departments, the Judiciary, non-government organizations and other community organizations to facilitate the delivery of legal services to the community; supervising the preparation and delivery of legal literacy materials for use in the Centres community education program; integrating the ‘Law Clinic’ course offered in the LLB program into the Community Legal Centre; teaching and tutoring in relation to the ‘Law Clinic’ course and other LLB courses as required by the Head of School, particularly in the area of legal practice skills.

Applicants must have an undergraduate degree in Law and a post-degree Practical Legal Training qualification or equivalent; possess a current practicing certificate; be admitted or eligible for admission to practice Law in Vanuatu; have a some years post-admission experience as a practicing lawyer/barrister in a Common Law jurisdiction; considerable courtroom experience; experience in managing and administering a legal practice; excellent oral and written English language skills; extensive experience as a ‘trainer’; strong interpersonal skills and ability to motivate others; and a high level of computer literacy. Preference will be given to applicants with high standards or personal and professional integrity; reliability and self-motivation; and the ability to speak and understand Bislama, the national language of Vanuatu, would be an advantage.

The position is available for a term of three years and may be renewed by mutual agreement.

Salary Range: Lecturer 3,972,317vatu to 5,226,733vatu per annum
(inclusive of 15% gratuity)
