School of Environmental and Rural Science
The School of Environmental and Rural Science at the University of New England is a leader in animal science research in Australia and has a large multidisciplinary group working in applied animal production. The University of New England seeks a suitably qualified scientist to take a three year postdoctoral research position in the field of behaviour and welfare.
The successful applicant will have responsibility to develop and conduct research on layer hens in floor and free-range systems. It is intended that the appointee would assist in the development of welfare measures (and in particular measures of affective state) and in the development of electronic tracking systems to identify space usage both within and outside the layer shed. The position is funded by an Australian Poultry CRC project and the appointee will work jointly with UNE and CSIRO at Armidale.
This position would ideally suit someone who wishes to retain their career focus while also having the desire for a life-style change in beautiful Armidale, New England. Armidale is surrounded by world heritage national parks, is only two hours from the mid north coast and is a unique regional centre that offers all the facilities of a much larger city. Recognised as a centre for culture, Armidale is well served with high quality art, music, theatre and public and private education.
