WORK HOURS: Full-time; 40 hours/week.

SALARY: (1) Mission Policy is to hire LES employees at step 1 of the grade. The current annual salary for an LES-7, step 1 is L.E. 62,832.

(2) Actual FP grade and salary will be determined by the US Department of State.

The US Embassy in Cairo is seeking an individual for the position of Power Plant Supervisor in the Facilities Office.

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION

As a Power Plant Maintenance Supervisor, directs subordinate power plant operators and performs advanced and highly skilled electrical work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of diesel electrical power generators up to 500 KVA at the U.S. Embassy, Cairo and at approximately 15 various sites throughout the mission.

Directly accountable for providing uninterrupted, protected, regulated and specific back-up power supply source to the Mission’s critical loads such as the computer operation center (ISC), post communication center (PCC), telecommunications, and security operation systems, in the event of a commercial power source failure. Duties include the supervision of Power Generation Technicians in the performance of all maintenance and operations-related activities, performing skilled troubleshooting work; performing emergency energy control operations; monitoring abnormal system and plant operating procedures, performing and monitoring routine preventative maintenance programs; maintaining routine operating procedures; and maintaining reporting and record keeping systems. May also perform electrical and technical work support at switchgear rooms and at Uninterruptible Power System (UPS) locations throughout Embassy properties on an as needed basis.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

NOTE: All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.

1. College studies in electrical engineering and in the emergency electric power generating (EPG) systems field is required.

2. Four years experience in automatic emergency diesel electric power generating systems including extensive verifiable experience with Uninterruptible Power System (UPS) systems required; three years of which should be supervisory.

3. Level III (good working knowledge) English; Level IV (fluent) Arabic.

SELECTION PROCESS

When equally qualified, US Citizen Eligible Family Members (EFMs) and U.S. veterans will be given preference. Therefore, it is essential that the candidate address the required qualifications above in the application.

1. Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy.

2. Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply for advertised positions.

3. Currently employed US Citizen EFMs who hold an FMA appointment are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment.

4. Currently employed NORs hired under a Personal Services Agreement (PSA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment, unless currently hired into a position with a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.
