Special Advisor, Guatemala
The American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative seeks a Program Director for an anticipated new 18-month regional program to strengthen forensic science capacity in criminal justice sectors throughout Central America. This will be a full-time position based in Guatemala City, with occasional activities in Belize, Honduras, El Salvador and Panama.
The Special Advisor will manage technical assistance activities to (1) strengthen the capacity of criminalists, crime scene analysts, and police investigators to properly gather, analyze, and report on forensic evidence; and (2) strengthen the capacity of prosecutors and judges to respectively present and evaluate this evidence in litigation.
Qualifications
Responsibilities will include working with existing country staff in Guatemala, Belize and Panama to provide expertise and advance program objectives in criminal procedure law and forensic evidence; maintaining partnerships and coordinating activities with donors and local partners; and providing administrative, logistical and financial support related to the program. An advanced degree in law, science, management, or a related field is required for this position. Experience with forensic institutions is required, and experience in the region is preferred. Strong managerial skills are required, and previous U.S. government grant management experience is preferred. Speaking/reading/writing fluency in Spanish is required, and additional fluency in English is preferred.
