Established in 2011, Rights for All (RFA) is a non-profit association working for the promotion and protection of human rights in Cameroon by combatting trafficking, torture and other forms of inhumane treatment.

Job Purpose The Programme Officer assists the Programme Manager in the successful implementation and execution of RFA’s programmes and projects.

Reports to Programme Manager

Primary Duties and Responsibilities Assist in the successful implementation of RFA’s programmes and projects

• Assist the Programme Manager in the planning and designing of RFA’s programmes and projects

• Assist in the initiation, implementation and monitoring of RFA programme(s)/project(s) according to documented plans.

• Assist the Programme Manager in documenting programme/project activities

• Assist in writing reports on the programme/project for management and for funders

• Assist in delivering services according to programme plan

• Any other task assigned by the Programme Manager

Qualifications

Education

• University degree in a related subject, such as Political Sciences, Law, Sociology, Anthropology, if focus on law: degree in Law, preferably International Law or Human Rights Law

Knowledge, skills and abilities

• Good understanding of and passion for human rights issues, especially in the African context

• Excellent written and spoken English and French

• Excellent organisational skills

• Ability to take initiative to implement, expand or improve programmes where necessary

• Outgoing and dynamic personality—ability to communicate with partners and stakeholders and to carry out projects in the community with little supervision.

Proficiency in the use of computers for

• Word processing

• Simple accounting

• Databases

• Spreadsheets

• E-mail

• Internet

Personal characteristics

The Programme Officer should demonstrate competence in some or all of the following:

• Build Relationships: Establish and maintain positive working relationships with others both internally and externally to achieve the goals of RFA.

• Communicate Effectively: Speak, listen and write in a clear, thorough and timely manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques.

• Focus on Client Needs: Anticipate, understand, and respond to the needs of internal and external clients to meet or exceed their expectations within RFA’s parameters.

• Foster Teamwork: Work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness.

• Solve Problems: Assess problem situations to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions, and make recommendations and/or resolve the problem.

Experience

• At least one year work experience, preferably in a developing country and/or on human rights issues

• Lived or travelled in a developing country for at least one month, preferably in Sub-Saharan Africa

Salary: A stipend in accordance to local salaries will be provided.
