Consultant/Assistant Consultant - Private Sector Development in Developing Nations/Emerging Markets

PKF (UK) LLP is seeking to recruit a full-time Consultant/Assistant Consultant in private sector development to join our London-based team to identify, bid for and manage PSD technical assistance projects with development partners including the EC, DFID, the World Bank and EBRD. Candidates should have technical expertise in one or more of the following areas: SME policy development; business advisory services; regulatory and enabling environment; making markets work for the poor; value chain and cluster development; and international trade.

Our London-based International Projects Group focuses on assignments in developing nations and emerging markets, working principally for bilateral and multilateral development partners. We provide a wide range of technical assistance and support covering such areas as public expenditure and financial management, public finance audit and accounting, private sector policy and SME development, and financial sector restructuring.

The Role

We are seeking to recruit a Consultant/ Assistant Consultant with a track record of successful delivery of international development consultancy assignments in private sector development. Duties and responsibilities will include:

  • tracking project opportunities and serving as technical lead in writing proposals;
  • assembling project teams and budgets;
  • contracting management and on-going liaison with clients and beneficiaries;
  • advising project teams in preparing work plans and reports;
  • monitoring and quality assuring project deliverables;
  • undertaking short-term technical assignments in the field, providing consulting services and backstopping support, as well as technical delivery in support of project outputs and outcomes;
  • participating in knowledge management and experts’ database development;
  • proactively contributing to marketing efforts;
  • mentoring and coaching junior staff and interns.

Interested candidates should have:

a. Masters degree in a PSD-related field (economics, business, development), with demonstrable experience in managerial/consultancy positions in donor-funded projects;
b. proven ability to win and manage DFID, EU, WB and other donor contracts;
c. proven technical experience in supporting private sector development for economic growth and poverty reduction;
d. experience of working in developing countries;
e. flexibility to travel and work across different continents;
f. good verbal and written language skills in English. Knowledge of other languages will be an advantage;
g. excellent organisational and communication skills, ability to work independently and lead multicultural teams to achieve results;
h. At this time PKF does not have an allocation of Tier 2 work permits and therefore only individuals with a right to work in the UK should apply.
