Economic Security (EcoSec) Delegate British Red Cross

Unemployment and underemployment are arguably the most critical factors affecting economic security in Gaza. The British Red Cross (BRC) and ICRC are working in partnership to imlement Economic Security (EcoSec) activities, as described in the Planning for Results (PfR) 2012, to address the lack of income for the very poor in the Gaza Strip, which is attributable to economic stagnation, associated high rates of unemployment, and lack of employment opportunities due to the conflict. Ecosec activities such as Cash for Work (CfW) aim to ensure that beneficiaries who are targeted will be able, on the basis of the income generated from the CfW, to increase their income during three annual months of peak expenditure largely related to education (school and university enrolment).
