Head of School HOCET Secondary School Tanzania

HOCET Secondary School is seeking a dynamic, experienced, and professionally trained Head of School for a full-time position to begin January 10th, 2012 at its location in the rural village of Shungubweni in Mkuranga. Pay is competitive and based on educational background and work experience. Housing, food, healthcare and transportation benefits are included.

Minimum qualifications:

1. Fluent in Swahili and English
2. University degree or higher
3. At least 3 years of work experience, with previous administrative experience
4. Strong leadership, communication, and human resource management skills
5. Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks
6. Intermediate computer skills
7. Personal and professional commitment to the health, well-being, and empowerment of orphaned and vulnerable youth
8. Commitment to accountability, integrity, and contributing toward a positive, nurturing, and student-centered learning community

Responsibilities include the following:

• Provide direct supervision to teaching staff as well as project management support for all campus facilities and activities. Activities include academic and extracurricular programs, school construction, entrepreneurial/micro-business initiatives, student life, and community outreach projects.
• Supervise and participate in staff selection, hiring, and orientation process.
• Provide leadership, accountability, and support to all teaching staff members by maintaining files on staff attendance and evaluation.
• Provide ongoing staff evaluations through monthly 1-on-1 staff meetings, bi-annual staff evaluation reports, and end-of-year evaluation and recommendation reports.
• Collaborate with Head of Students to maintain student files that include up-to-date information on student academics, behavior, and health.
• Facilitate weekly meetings with school leadership staff and assist Kujali Field Director in the facilitation of all-staff monthly meetings.
• Maintain regular communication with designated HSS Board of Director representatives and Kujali Field Director.
• Provide monthly reports to Kujali Field Director on personnel, academics, school operations, facilities and equipment, programs, and students.
• Serve on HSS Board of Directors and provide consultation and feedback on the development of policies andprograms that support student learning & wellness, program impact, and operational effectiveness.
• Assist Kujali Field Director in providing disciplinary action and oversight in the case of policy violations for student and staff members.
• Monitor and evaluate teaching staff and program effectiveness.
• Report all major policy violations or other serious problems to the Kujali Head office in a timely manner.
• Supervise the storing, distribution, and tracking of supplies, materials, food, and other consumables, and facilitate communication between Kujali Head office and HSS to ensure timely purchase and delivery of needed goods
• Work with Kujali Accountant to ensure that all funds are appropriately dispersed and accounted for.
• Ensure the effective execution of HSS BOD-determined policies and programs at HOCET Secondary School.
