Knowledge management in rural development in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region

Call for proposals: Knowledge management in rural development in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region

KariaNet, the Knowledge Access for Rural Inter-connected Areas Network, is a Regional Knowledge Management and Knowledge Sharing network co-funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and co-funded and implemented by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) targeted at ten countries within the MENA region.

In context of KariaNet’s project, IFAD and IDRC are launching a competitive call for innovative research proposals concerning knowledge management in rural development in the MENA region. The applied research aims to test and develop Knowledge Management (KM) and Knowledge Sharing (KS) in different country contexts to explore the full potential of KM for improved project performance and impact (particularly in the areas of food security and rural enterprise development). The present call is managed according to IDRC rules and procedures for competitive calls.

The attached call outlines examples of possible research themes and questions, for example: the use of ICT in extension and information services, the potential of knowledge access to boost rural enterprise development and market access and, how to operationalize KM in order to influence policy dialogue.
