Liberia Medical Coordinator

GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Medical Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and management of Equip Liberia’s integrated health programs and delivery of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare’s (MOHSW) Essential Package of Health Care Services at 24 facilities and their catchment communities in Nimba County. The Medical Coordinator will be responsible to coordinate and provide: capacity building, technical and program development, supervision of relevant health personnel, and monitoring and evaluation of all primary health services according to MOHSW and donor indicators. This position will also contribute to efforts to identify and assist in securing ongoing funding for other PHC related programs to ensure the continued success of the program.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Support EQUIP’s primary health care activities, including clinical supervision and management of 24 primary care clinics and health centers;

  • Develop and implement strategies that promote community involvement in health planning and implementation, facility utilization, ownership and support of primary health care facilities, and community referral systems;

  • Provide technical oversight for all of EQUIP's primary health programs to ensure standardized protocols, policies, guidelines and established best practices are implemented, as prescribed by the Liberia MOHSW and funding institutions, and consistent with internationally accepted standards;

  • Participate in county and national level working groups and technical committees to develop and monitor progress towards national morbidity and mortality reduction strategies in priority areas such as reproductive health, maternal and child health, malaria control, and HIV and TB control.

  • Oversee implementation of EQUIP's performance based incentive programs and contracts to improve quality of care at facilities and the surrounding catchment communities

QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

  • Must have medical/clinical and international primary care experience; (MD, PA, Nurse Practitioner with a Master's in Public Health preferred)

  • 3-5 years experience in overseas programs at the Managerial level relating to fully integrated primary health care, maternal and child health (including IMCI), reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, malaria and other communicable diseases

  • Prior supervisory experience and ability to contribute to motivational and capacity-building efforts and work with colleagues in diverse cultures

  • Excellent organization skills, time management and attention to detail (Ability to work independently and to manage various responsibilities on a daily basis with minimal supervision)
