NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR (IT09)
Applications are invited for the above position from suitably qualified Network Administrators. The incumbent will be responsible to install, configure and maintain file servers, clusters and workstations in the School of Physics, and to maintain staff computer requirements, including printers, scanners and anti-virus software.
Duties amongst others will include:
- Hardware installation, configuring and maintaining various file servers, clusters and workstations residing within the School of Physics.
- Installation of system related packages onto file servers, clusters and workstations residing within the School of Physics and ensuring that they are running effectively.
- Maintaining standards on the file servers, clusters and workstations.
- Keeping up to date with the latest hardware and software technologies and advising when necessary to change existing procedure.
- Performance monitoring of file servers, clusters and workstations.
- Maintain the School of Physics network consistent with requirement and specifications of Wits Computer and Network Services (CNS) department. Interact with CNS.
- Installation/configuration of interfacing software e.g. LABVIEW for researching and teaching equipment.
- Maintain computer requirements for staff (both academic and support) - including printers, scanners and anti-virus software - within the School of Physics.
- Liaise with suppliers and obtain quotes for computer equipment.
- Any other tasks or activities which fall within the general functioning of the
School of Physics as determined by the Head of School/Chief Technician.
Minimum qualifications/requirements/criteria: BSc or Microsoft Certification or Linux Certification; relevant years of experience in a similar working environment; strong technical background; knowledge of computer systems and network experience. Must be capable of working with minimal supervision under the direction of Senior Staff. Good communication skills and interpersonal relationships, problem solving and organizational skills. Knowledge of the University computer systems and equipment is desirable.
