The successful candidate will be in charge of the maintenance of screening chambers and associated equipment to grow and screen C4 mutants, transgenic rice and wild type rice plants for the C4 Project. The apparatus will be critical in the identification of plants to be used to developC4 rice, and will also be used to identify superior phenotypes in the context of the C4 photosynthesis.

Major accountabilities/Responsibilities

• To supervise screenhouse and chamber screening facilities for the screening of rice and sorghum mutants by ensuring all experiments done by research teams are properly set-up and protocols are properly implemented
• To optimize all CO2 chambers by maintaining, monitoring and calibrating all digital and analog instruments and equipment; troubleshoot, repair malfunctioning electronic instruments, devices and equipment. Download and analyze the data generated from chambers and loggers and to generate appropriate tables and graphs from the experiments and be made available to all research teams
• To supervise and train research and emergency technicians in the various techniques and ensuring efficiency and protocols and procedures are followed accurately and correctly; maintain greenhouse and head house organization by ensuring proper inventory of supplies and equipment; that supplies and equipment are available when needed and in good condition
• To develop and execute communication between plant growth chamber sensors, equipment controllers, and PC to facilitate monitoring, control and data acquisition
• To interact with other research and support teams regarding research needs, schedules of activities, protocols and other research concerns; communicate regularly with supervisor on the status of the experiments, current activities and the needs of the research group

Qualification requirements

• Degree in Engineering or equivalent
• At least 2 years related work experience on instrumentation and control syste design, and implementation
• Can interpret/understand technical drawings; knowledge in instrumentation and control system components; systems troubleshooting
