The successful candidate will ensure the smooth and efficient conduct of activities related to the Green Super Rice (GSR) project. Conduct molecular breeding activities for the identification and transfer of genes and QTLs for biotic and abiotic stresses into popular variety and advanced breeding lines.

Major accountabilities/responsibilities:

• Perform genetic evaluation and screening of breeding lines generated under the GSR program for tolerance to major biotic and abiotic stresses and in collaboration with pathology, entomology and other teams.

• Conduct large-scale genotyping and fine-scale mapping for marker-assisted selection (MAS) to introduce biotic and abiotic tolerance into the advanced backcross lines.

• Assist in maintenance and characterization of GSR materials and other important lines/varieties and seed stocks

• Responsible in the inventory, monitoring and storage of PCR reagents, molecular markers and enzymes for molecular work

• Contributes to presenting results of research in seminars and conferences, and contributes to preparing manuscripts for publication

• Perform all other related duties that may be assigned from time to time by the immediate supervisor


Qualification requirements:

• B.S. Agriculture or B.S. Biology major in Genetics or related discipline
• 1-2 years relevant work experience in the field and laboratory
• Field and greenhouse management skills and experience in molecular markers. Strong ability to run operations in research and willingness to check all greenhouse, screenhouse and fields on a daily basis. Summarizing data and writing reports. Ability to work with a team in a multi-cultural environments. Computer literate (proficient in MS excel, word, power point, access and with excellent oral and written communication skills.
