Senior IT Administrator Transparency International (TI)

Transparency International (TI) is the global civil society organisation leading the fight against corruption. Through more than 90 chapters worldwide and an international secretariat in Berlin, Germany, TI raises awareness of the damaging effects of corruption and works with partners in government, business and civil society to develop and implement effective measures to tackle it. The Communications department is one of three departments in the External Relations Group of the TI secretariat in Berlin.

Job Title: Senior IT Administrator
Main function: Manage the IT infrastructure of an organization with less than 200 staff
Duration: 2 year contract, with possibility for extension
Starting date: 1 January 2012
Location: TI-Secretariat Berlin
Work hours: Full-time position

Transparency International – Secretariat will in the next 12 months move many of our IT services to externally-hosted environments on a private cloud model. As a Microsoft partner with a full set of Microsoft licenses, we are seeking a highly experienced professional who understands Microsoft’s strategic direction and can lead us into this new world. As team lead you will supervise two other IT staff members and implement a defined workplan.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead user support
  • Maintain TI-S software and hardware (200 workstations, servers, printers)
  • Maintain TI’s network, connection to the Internet, VPN’s, firewall, etc
  • Safeguard the integrity of TI’s IT network, including protection against viruses and hacking
  • Maintain daily data back-ups of data on servers
  • Maintain remote webmail access for TI-S including mobile devices
  • Define and meet standards in Service Level Agreements

Knowledge and skills requirements:

  • A degree in IT administration, Microsoft certification, or equivalent experience
  • Customer service orientation
  • Min. 5 years experience maintaining a Microsoft IT infrastructure on a scale comparable to TI-S (ca. 160 users)
  • Project Management training and experience
  • Experience managing external vendors
  • Experience with system-wide software and hardware upgrades
  • Hands-on experience with:
    - MS Windows server 2003 and 2008 R2
    - MS Forefront Thread Management Gateway 2010
    - MS Active Directory (Group policies, Access rights)
    - MS Office Professional 2003 and 2010
    - MS Exchange Server 2003 and 2010
    - MS Virtualisation technologies (Hyper-V, Failover Cluster)
    - MS Forefront End Protection 2010
    - MS Deployment tools (WAIK, MDT,WDS, SCCM, MSI)
    - MS Scripting technologies (CMD, VBS, Powershell)
    - M86 Mail Marshal SMTP Gateway
    - Symantec Backup Exec 2010
    - SAN storage devices (iSCSI)
    - HP Network devices (WLAN, Switch)

  • Knowledge of network technologies (TCPIP, routing, Ethernet)
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal
  • Strong interpersonal and team-building skills
  • Skills in definition and documentation of IT processes and technology
  • Self-motivated with the ability to interact efficiently with team members and colleagues
  • A positive, independent problem-solving, can-do attitude

Knowledge and skills considered an asset:

  • Supervisory experience
  • Strategic planning of IT infrastructure requirements
  • Risk management
  • Working experience with cloud solutions
  • Special expertise or training in security issues
  • International working experience
  • Fluency in European languages
  • A background in non-profit or NGO environments
  • A proven commitment to social justice and the fight against corruption
