Background

The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) works with poor rural people to enable them to grow and sell more food, increase their incomes and determine the direction of their own lives. Since 1978, IFAD has invested about US$13.2 billion in grants and low-interest loans to developing countries through projects empowering some 400 million people to break out of poverty, thereby helping to create vibrant rural communities. IFAD is an international financial institution and a specialized United Nations agency based in Rome – the UN’s food and agricultural hub. It is a unique partnership of 167 members from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), other developing countries and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

The Writing and Publications Unit is part of IFAD’s Communications Division. The unit is responsible for conceptualizing, planning, researching and writing corporate materials for a variety of audiences. These products are designed to raise global awareness of rural poverty, the complexities of its causes, and how IFAD’s work can contribute to its eradication. They also tell the individual stories of poor rural women, men and young people involved in IFAD-funded activities, recounting their experiences. The unit also coordinates the development and production of publications such as IFAD’s Annual Report, and provides editorial guidance to the Fund’s technical divisions on the preparation of publications and other materials.
