The Biomedical NMR group at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) has a leading role in the development of novel non-invasive Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Spectroscopy (MRS) techniques and their application in cardiovascular disease, metabolic disorders and cancer. MRI and MRS are multidisciplinary research areas that bring together expertise from biomedical imaging, physics, chemistry, image analysis and mathematical modeling, with the aim to develop improved diagnostic procedures and therapeutic interventions.

The group strives to translate promising new techniques from the preclinical to the clinical setting, by combining research in animal models with studies in healthy volunteers and human patients. The group has two state-of-the-art high-field animal MR scanners and has access to multimodal imaging facilities, including a whole-body 3.0 Tesla MR scanner, at the High Tech Campus Eindhoven via its collaboration with Philips Research. The team collaborates with many additional academic and industrial partners, both in the Eindhoven area and elsewhere.

Position description:
The tenure-track scientist will primarily be recruited on the basis of scientific reputation, the potential to advance and complement the group's present research program, and the capacity to reinforce the research alliance with UMCU in the domain of translational cardiovascular imaging. A background in the area of cardiovascular imaging, in particular MRI, is therefore a bonus. Apart from collaborating with imaging specialists at UMCU, the tenure-tracker will join forces with experts at TU/e and UMCU to develop advanced imaging technologies for the field of cardiovascular regenerative medicine. The emphasis will be on the exploitation of endogenous MRI contrast mechanisms to quantify cardiovascular injury and repair processes, to maximize the options for clinical translation.

You should be an excellent and stimulating scientist, who has original ideas, is capable of working in multi-disciplinary teams and can competently lead collaborative research between two universities. You should develop a high-quality line of research with which high international exposure and reputation is reached after a term of six years. This should lead to publications in high-impact journals and adequate acquisition of external funds for research.

Besides tasks in research, the tenure-track scientist is expected to teach and develop curricula in the area of biomedical imaging.

Requirements:
We are seeking an outstanding scientist engaged in high impact research. The candidate has considerable experience in research, as evidenced by successful research positions at different international institutions and high-impact peer-reviewed publications. You should have a PhD and postdoctoral experience in a scientific field relevant to biomedical imaging and have affinity with both technological and translational aspects of this field. You have the ambition to address the needs for more advanced non-invasive imaging methods to improve the diagnostics and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. The candidate is expected to develop internationally recognized research lines and to successfully compete for extramural funding. Experience with various types of teaching is of additional advantage.
