Human Rights Watch (“HRW”) is seeking a Coordinator to provide administrative assistance to its Program Office which oversees HRW’s global research and reporting. This position reports to the Deputy Executive Director for Program and also supports three other members of the Program Office.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Organizing and co-coordinating the schedules and travel arrangements of the Deputy Executive Director and other Program Office team members;

2. Coordinating the creation of new online information sharing and administering existing systems including Program resource pages on HRW’s intranet;

3. Coordinating all phases of preparation of HRW’s reports including the annual World Report;

4. Organizing regular training sessions and orientation training for programmatic staff;

5. Creating and maintaining extensive filing and archiving systems;

6. Scheduling, preparing for and taking minutes at meetings, and assisting with special events;

7. Formatting and proofreading documents and assisting with research, electronic clipping, wires and translations;

8. Recruiting and coordinating interns; and

9. Carrying out other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in international relations, social sciences or a related field is required.

Experience: Minimum 2 to 3 years of relevant work experience.

Related Skills and Knowledge:

1. Prior office/administration experience, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills are required.

2. Ability to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision and work independently are required, as is ability to show tact, diplomacy, and maturity in dealing with colleagues at all levels of the organization.

3. Ability to work well under pressure while juggling multiple tasks simultaneously is required.

4. Experience with information management and online systems, especially Microsoft SharePoint, is highly desirable.

5. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required; proficiency in another language is desirable.

6. Strong interest in international human rights is preferred.

7. Proficiency in computer packages including MS Office applications in required.

Other: Applicants for this position must possess current US work authorization valid for a minimum of two years from start date.

Salary and Benefits: Salary range starts at $42,267. Human Rights Watch offers comprehensive employer-paid benefits, including medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, an outstanding retirement savings plan and twenty (20) days vacation per year.
