This position is a maternity cover for our Fashion Adviser working within the Architecture, Design, Fashion team. The purpose of the job is to work with the UK fashion sector and colleagues overseas to develop programmes, audiences and partnerships which contribute to the British Council’s cultural relations programme.


The Arts Group works closely with the British Council’s global arts team and the best of British creative talent to develop international opportunities in four specific priority areas:
• Bringing inspirational new UK work to new global audiences
• Showcasing the UK at events of international importance
• Developing skills and leadership in the creative sector
• Harnessing the power of arts in achieving international development goals

You will have specialist and up-to-date knowledge of the UK fashion sectors and an ability to make and articulate clear and insightful artistic judgements on new work. You will also have a broad understanding of and interest in the other areas of design covered by our department: architecture and design. You will appreciate the educational, developmental and creative industry opportunities of fashion activity and have an understanding of the opportunities for cultural relations through the arts within an international context. Demonstrable professional experience of working in a creative, producing, programming or management capacity in the sector, ideally with international links is essential.
