FORENSIC PATHOLOGY OFFICER Gr 2 (2 POSTS)

Salary: R115 365 per annum (Ref. MPDoH/Nov/11/33)



Requirements: • Senior Certificate plus 2-4 years' experience in forensic pathology coupled with managerial experience • Knowledge of and experience in forensic pathology procedures, documentation, relevant acts and legislation including Batho Pele Principles • Ability to work with corpses that are unidentified, mutilated, decomposed and sometimes have infectious viruses • Computer literacy plus familiarity with the basic Microsoft packages • Code B driver's licence plus willingness to travel extensively and undertake standby duties • Planning and leadership skills • Good interpersonal skills • Ability to work independently • Good verbal and written communication skills • Ability to identify and interact with the relevant stakeholders
• Ability to work under pressure in order to meet tight deadlines.



Duties: • Manage the forensic pathology service and the key resources, including human capital, finances, assets and operational management • Manage the recovery, storage and processing of corpses • Collect detailed information and other relevant exhibits from the crime scene • Render an efficient autopsy process according to the guidelines • Assist the Medical Officer when performing autopsies (evisceration), including X-rays to be taken • Efficiently handle and manage specimens after autopsies • Complete all relevant documentation and control all information optimally • Report to the Medico-legal Laboratory Manager or the District Forensic Pathology Office as the case may be • Attend court when necessary.


NB: A driver's practical competency assessment will form part of the selection process.
