Humanitarian Food Security and Livelihoods Specialist

Save the Children’s origins lie in emergency response and it has remained central to our work ever since. Our approach integrates our emergency and development work, through the medium of our country programmes. With the increasing frequency and severity of emergencies world-wide the organisation is in the process of increasing its capacity to support programmes in both sudden onset and chronic emergency situations. Emergency Response Personnel (ERP) staff play a key part in Save the Children in this strategy. They are deployed for medium-term assignments in various roles Preventing and addressing food and livelihood insecurity in emergency affected populations plays a crucial role in response and recovery programming for Save the Children. As well as engaging in response and recovery food and non food input distribution, capacity building and market support, Save the Children promotes and practices innovative approaches to addressing problems and prides itself on designing effective hunger programmes based on carefully assessed needs.

Food Security & Livelihoods Specialists are needed for a whole range of countries currently experiencing crises and/or early recovery.

Experience in managing food security and livelihoods programmes in emergencies, including the use of in-kind food transfers, cash transfers and livestock interventions is essential in addition to experience of food security and livelihoods assessments (including market assessments) and in the design of interventions.
