Procurement Category Manager, Ingredients

To lead delivery excellence for North American Procurement within specified categories and establish performance targets for each, managing the interface with internal stakeholders and partnering with related CE personnel in managing Diageo's suppliers.
· Lead the development of appropriate relationships with key partners.
· Engage and gain buy in from key stakeholders in developing and then implementing category strategy.
·To work with Finance and budget holders to commit and then deliver against specific goals as they relate to this category.
Financial Responsibility
· Global Procurement will be a significant contributor to Diageo Trading Profit growth; and Brand Building (for top line growth) - committed to deliver savings in F12-F14
· Total Global Procurement spend coverage approx £3.1b
· This role is accountable for spend coverage of approx $xxxxm within Diageo
Management Responsibility
· This role has responsibility for supporting the development of, approving, and then implementing the Ingredients category strategy for Category in North America
· Responsible for making sure that supplier management processes are in place for all key suppliers
· Responsible for driving increased value from supplier relationships within category (which may vary from from open market commodity purchases to long-term single sourced relationships)
· Prioritises and deploys resources against highest value opportunities, both new value and value protection/enhancement. Strong ability to prioritise and focus on delivering business goals.
· Driving greater innovation through key partners/ influencing partner investment and direction
Complexity of Role
·Requires working across multiple locations across North America
· Influences multiple key senior stakeholders across Supply (and/or) Demand businesses. Needs to create the right environment for success against a backdrop of diverse and often conflicting business needs.
·Ultimately accountable for key external suppliers in the defined categories to maximise long term commercial advantage
·Requires an understanding of multiple cultures and market dynamics
·Requires management of a number of outsourced relationships
Key Outputs/Deliverables
· Support development of, agree, and implement cross functional category strategy.
·Manage and achieve/ exceed the performance targets agreed within strategy.
·Establish and maintain correct governance processes and category forums
· In conjunction with CE and business owners, ensure effective supplier long term relationships exist that create sustainable value for both parties and meet Corporate Citizenship with Suppliers criteria
Experience
·5-8 yrs of procurement/value chain or relevant commercial experience in a consumer products environment.
· Proven track record of consistent performance and delivery (what & how of performance)
·Strong analytical and inter-personal skills
Excellent Functional Capabilities
· Good understanding of the category management process with experience of deployment in at least one category
· Demonstrated experience in sourcing and successful negotiation.
· Generates good industry insights and the impact these have for Procurement and Diageo
·Proven ability to build effective Supplier relationships
Excellent Leadership Capabilities
·Good influencing skills and personal impact to gain credibility quickly with senior stakeholders
· Ability to operate and successfully managing variety of senior stakeholders across a global, complex matrix structure
·Ability to establish/ maintain effective communication with stakeholders across global business
· Strong commercial acumen, understanding of the business, and judgement
· Objectively challenges established practice to stimulate alternative thinking
·Good facilitation capability
·Experience of leading/participating in cross functional change projects.
