Researcher: Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in the Crop Post-Harvest Unit of the Pesticide Science Programme

The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) is a Research and Development Institution of excellence in South Africa, which operates within the National System of Innovation. The ARC has a mandate for innovative and creative agricultural research, technology development and transfer aimed at the advancement of South African agriculture. Its operations are overseen by the ARC Council appointed by and accountable to the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

The ARC-Plant Protection Research Institute (ARC-PPRI) seeks to appoint a highly motivated, innovative, visionary, strategic and dynamic person to the following position in Pretoria:


Researcher: Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in the Crop Post-Harvest Unit of the Pesticide Science Programme

Key performance areas: • Write proposals for future research contracts • Plan and manage research projects • Evaluate and manage personnel performance • Publish research outputs in peer-reviewed journals, semi-scientific publications and technical reports.


Requirements: • PhD (Agric) in Entomology, Pesticide Science • Publication record • Strong evidence of research experience in IPM-related projects, experience in rodent control and working with smallholder farmers would be advantageous • Ability to initiate, manage and undertake research projects • Ability to work both independently and within a research team • Ability to use IT systems and computer software applications for the recording, analysis and presentation of data • Valid Code 08/EB driver’s licence • The candidate will be required to undertake fieldwork away from home when working with smallholder farmers.

Competitive remuneration packages will be congruent with the scope, responsibilities and stature of the positions. The appointments will be subject to a 6-month probation period.
