ORGANIZATIONAL SETTING AND REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: This Associate Information Systems Officer position is located in the Information Technology Section (ITS), Communication and Information Services Branch (CISB), Office for the Coordination for Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) Geneva. The incumbent reports to the Deputy Chief of ITS.

Within the delegated authority, s/he will be responsible for the following duties:

RESPONSIBILITIES: Develops communications material to support ITS functions in headquarters and the field locations; Participates in the preparation of training and awareness materials on ICT tools and services; Drafts training materials and conducts training sessions and demonstrations of systems for users including development of end user guidance material including ‘‘how to’’ guides; Participates in developing and maintaining project plans for special IT projects, including installation of Wifi, software upgrades, software images, network installations; Assists in identifying appropriate human and technical resources to complete the project, assists in assuring that deviations from project schedule are addressed and communicated, assists in developing timely project status reports, monitoring project risk factors, escalating project issues, and providing Quality Assurance for all project deliverables; Executes foresaid plans; Assists Service Desk Supervisor in quality assurance of service desk operations, including recommending improvements on standard operating procedures; Assist Geneva Service Desk team with user support when needed; Prepares, updates and maintains system’s documentation and related technical/procedural manuals; Participates in preparing user requirements and other technical specifications; Maintains assigned portions of systems, providing operational support for system’s applications, analyzing and implementing system changes/upgrades, etc.; Assists in standards development, including conducting needs assessments and benchmarks, preparing technical specifications and evaluation criteria; Assists in the set-up and monitoring of software performance measures; Assists in the development and revision of Service Catalogue and Service Level Agreements (SLAs) between the client and ITS, for either specific IT services or general technology support, including any charge back mechanisms; Participates with senior staff in assessing and testing new technology; Performs ad hoc duties as required.

Qualifications & Experience

EDUCATION: Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in computer science, information systems, mathematics, statistics or related field is required; A first-level university degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in combination of qualifying relevant professional experience may be accepted in lieu of advanced university degree.

WORKING EXPERIENCE: A minimum two (2) years of progressively responsible professional experience in the planning, design, development, implementation and maintenance of computer information systems or related area (No experience is required for candidates who have passed the United Nations Competitive Recruitment Examination).

LANGUAGE: For this position fluency in English (both oral and written) is required; Knowledge of another official UN language is an advantage.
