Commercial Finance Analyst

This year the Diageo Exec aligned to delivering a breakthrough globally by continuing the rigorous approach to pricing, promotions and trade terms to deliver £260M gross profit .
This role will be based in (or within easy reach of) London and require some international travel, potentially for periods up to 2 weeks.


Purpose of Role


Work as part of a team of pooled resources that will:

  • Support the LT to develop and set the direction of the programme

  • Bring and further develop best practice tools, processes and capabilities

  • Track and measure the outcomes of the programme

  • Work alongside our external partner to enable effective knowledge transfer

  • Take global thinking and make it locally actionable

  • Add to the level of analytical expertise within the team

  • Be the catalyst for organisational change, leading to the regions and markets becoming obsessed with pricing, promotions and trade terms.



Top Accountabilities


1. Provide decision support against high value at stake issues across the programme. For example:
a. Develop consumer and customer pricing tramlines and strategies from market/brand pricing studies
b. Develop business cases and recommendations around changing prices and work with markets to implement
c. Develop and codify best practice tools, models and analytics in the areas of pricing, promotions and trade terms and embed with markets; e.g. price elasticity modelling
d. Support the development of a trading terms ‘end state’ that will be implemented across our major markets, and engage with markets to move towards that end state
e. Work alongside our external partners on in-market pricing reviews to enable effective knowledge transfer.
f. Identify opportunities to create value across pricing, promotions and trade terms
2. Support the performance management across the programme
a. Track and measure the impact of agreed actions – did we do what we said we would do – develop the methodology and approach and embed with markets
b. Track and measure performance/compliance vs consumer and customer price tramlines
c. Track and measure the ROI impact from promotions management
d. Provide visibility and understanding of the impact of TNT across the world, and any financial adjustments associated with it
e. Establish a benefits tracking methodology for the programme, and build into ways of working.
3. Support the delivery of the Data and Market Intelligence Mission:
a. Support the identification of D&MI needs/gaps and scope out business priorities and requirements across pricing, promotions and trade terms
b. Work with IS/external agencies on specific projects to address those gaps


Qualifications and experience required



  • A strong track record of delivery in Finance roles, ideally with experience in pricing and trade investment management.

  • Strong analytical and quantitative abilities - with an advanced level of excel essential

  • Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team, and quickly develop and apply new skills and knowledge.

  • Ability to prioritise and make tough decisions in the interests of Diageo and the programme

  • Able to build and sustain strong relationships
