Global Pensions Manager

Purpose
Subject matter expert on retirement benefits establishing appropriate governance framework within which retirement benefits are provided across Diageo, providing internal consulting to markets on local arrangements, and ensuring an appropriate provision is in place for globally mobile employees.
It is intended that the initial priority for this role will be the establishment of a market competitive pension provision for Diageo’s globally mobile population. The role will then take on the additional responsibility for the provision of employee benefits expertise to markets based on priority need.

Context
Diageo operates a number of pension plans throughout the world devised in accordance with local conditions and practices.
The principal plans are in UK, ROI, USA and Canada and these are governed and managed via local arrangements, within the global Statement of Authorities. However, a need exists for subject matter expertise at corporate centre to ensure the governance framework is clear and workable and with particular accountability for retirement benefits for the globally mobile population and the SoA within which global and local accountability is exercised.
The role is based in London but some limited travel can be expected.


Dimensions of the role

a) Financial
No direct budget responsibility but pension/ retirement benefit liabilities is a complex area, requiring excellent knowledge of the operation of a variety of pension arrangements and strong financial acumen.
b) Market Complexity
Dealing with market FDs and HRDs, group finance and International Assignees and localised employees globally.
Understand multiple Diageo employing entities and legacy pension arrangements.
c) Leadership Responsibilities
No direct reports
The role will need to interact with senior level individuals in HR, Finance and amongst the globally mobile population.


Top Accountabilities


  • To develop and lead the strategic direction of the pension scheme(s) for globally mobile employees.

  • To identify, evaluate and make benefit design recommendatjons.

  • To maintain a global Statement of Authorities that supports a strong control environment for pensions globally to ensure compliance with all the relevant statutory requirements.

  • To ensure the SoA for pensions is understood by its key users through appropriate communications (and education, if required)

  • To lead/ support ad hoc pension and benefits projects globally as required.

  • To provide technical and specialist pensions expertise to the Performance and Reward Team and the business as required.

  • To seek and evaluate expert technical advice in order to deliver structured and targeted support to decision makers.



Qualifications and experience required

Qualifications

  • Graduate calibre.

  • Relevant qualification, e.g. APMI qualified (or equivalent).

Experience/Skills

  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of employee benefits and pensions arrangements, with some exposure to schemes outside the UK.

  • Strong commercial focus with ability to understand the perspective of all parties and to work in a collaborative, consultative and practical manner.

  • Good technical knowledge of financial management of pension schemes.

  • Experience of creating and implementing new employee benefits and pension arrangements.

  • A strong communicator (written and oral) with an ability to provide clear, regular, and concise information to all parties.

  • Analytically strong with good financial acumen and a broad understanding of reward and the role of benefits and pension provision within it.

  • Strong project management skills.

  • A good thinking ability and by looking at the whole range of employee benefits and pensions issues be able to prioritise and consider requirements in the context of Diageo
