Liquid Technologist

Role Summary


This role conducts research and development work to achieve project and technical objectives. The individual will manage 3-5 projects per year under supervision of more senior specialist or line manager. The role will support scientists/ engineers as well as be held accountable for personal project delivery. Individual is motivated, self-confident, creative and skilled in specific discipline.

a) Qualifications and Capabilities Required
Education - Diploma or Bachelors degree in Science, Engineering, or related discipline, or proven experience equivalent. Engineering or Applied Science Degree or recognised technical equivalent. (Entry Level Position)
Takes direction from manager to understand the core activities for their role and deliver on expectations.
Conducts tests/ experiments using established laboratory/ pilot plant procedures
With guidance, is able to diagnose problems and determine recommended next steps.
Clearly communicates research results to management and peers, both verbally and in writing.
Able to manage workload and proactively seeks advice when priorities are unclear

Liquid Development:
- With guidance, creates good liquids on brief, within timeline and within cost requirements
- Has excellent record keeping skills
- With support from sensory and manager, designs learning plans and interprets consumer learnings to deliver liquid solutions
- Asks sound questions to understand commercialization implications; pro-actively shares formula strategy and updates supply
- Seeks out new ingredients, when appropriate and beneficial, to use in development

Dispense Development:
- With guidance, delivers dispense solutions from brief within agreed timelines and cost parameters.
- Ability to use customer and consumer knowledge to recommend new possibilities in troubleshooting or new dispense solutions.
- Able to develop good Supplier and Customer relationships to ensure excellence in execution.
- Has a good scientific approach to the work, is able to set up Dispense systems, has a good understanding of Product Quality, has sound knowledge of Packaging Technology
Sensory Science:
- Solid baseline skills in panel training (reference identification, gaining group consensus, developing a thorough ballot) gained through education or on the job training.
- Able to execute sensory test protocol (and question if issues are seen) as communicated by senior SCG staff
- Ability to run, interpret and report basic discrimination data analysis
- Holds the tension with developers on the proper use of sensory and the reporting of data
- Is knowledgeable and adheres to governance procedures in the serving of alcoholic beverages
- Able to guide and hold accountability of laboratory preparation technician.
Pilot Plant and Process Development:
- Ability to set up small scale processing equipment to undertake blending and processing trials
- Ability to develop their practical skills with a hands on approach.
- Seeks to develop a broader understanding of the liquid and SCG teams.
- Able to conduct analytical procedures and interpret analytical results, with support when needed.
