Environmental Manager Tanzania

Our Tulawaka Mine based in Tanzania require a suitably qualified and experienced Environmental Manager who is dedicated, self motivated and highly organised person to lead the Environmental Department and drive continuous improvement of the environmental management in our operations.
This position will report to the Mine General Manager and is worked on a FIFO roster 6/3 weeks.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:
  • Improve environmental management practices, standards and procedures at the mine by providing specific technical support.
  • Manage the implementation of all environmental standards, plans, programmes and policy requirements on the mine.
  • Develop and mentor the environmental team and engender environmental awareness amongst all employees on site.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal and other requirements to which African Barrick Gold and Barrick Gold Corporation subscribes and be the government interface on environmental issues for the mine.
PROFESSIONAL AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES
Education Requirements:
  • Postgraduate degree or equivalent qualification in Environmental Management.
  • Degree in Natural Sciences, Engineering, and/or Management Studies followed by postgraduate qualification in Environmental Management.
  • Professional registration with Environmental Management body will be an added advantage.
Experience Requirements:
  • At least ten (10) years’ experience as an environment practitioner with at least five (5) years in a senior supervisory role - the majority of this experience should be in the mining industry.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and environmental auditing experience.
  • Experience with monitoring, analysis, evaluation and reporting of environmental data.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to solve problems and lead by example.
  • Experience in the development and conducting of training for a mine workforce in environmental management.
  • Knowledge of mine department management, budgets, labour and government relations.
  • Demonstrated exposure to the implementation of Environmental Management Systems.
  • Knowledge of gold processing and cyanide management will be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of international environmental standards and best practices applicable to the mining industry.
  • Exposure to the challenges of operating on remote mine sites in Africa, and particularly in Tanzania.
  • Exposure to a multicultural working environment.
  • A strong personal commitment to implement policies and procedures, with the ability to foster strong health, safety and environmental awareness culture among personnel.
  • Ability to mentor and work with people from a wide range of nationalities and cultures and the willingness to share skills and knowledge with others.
  • Excellent planning, organisation skills, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple responsibilities and the self-discipline to achieve tasks on time.
  • Ability to respond well under pressure and act in a proactive manner to anticipate problems in the context of operational requirements and legal constraints.
  • Ability to write reports and formulate recommendations in a constructive manner.
